Chapter 4 Second Inmate

His bangs hid his obedient eyes.

He approached me gentlemanly and kissed the back of my hand.

"You are the new Correction Officer Ji, right? Nice to meet you. Please take care."

After last night's chaos, the sudden ease put me on edge.

Zhou Zilang noticed my reaction and smiled. "I am not like Fu Yanan, the violent one. Do not worry. Please sit."

Zhou Zilang, former Empire Assistant Minister, committed treason after the old king died and the ten-year-old new king ascended.

His hands were bound.

The room had nothing extra except a brush and a false window painted with flowers and sun.

"I like flowers and sunlight. I believe I will see the light of day again."

His eyes were clear, unlike an S-level inmate imprisoned for years.

But I still kept my guard up.

"From now on, everything you say and do is under my supervision. I hope you cooperate and do not cause trouble."

Zhou Zilang smiled. "Okay, I will be good."

Before leaving, he called me and shyly glanced at the pillow.

"Miss Ji, I prepared a gift for you."

I narrowed my eyes.

He was about to show his true face.

I held a knife at my waist and felt under the pillow carefully. I touched a picture of me.

I wore the Correction Officer uniform and smiled with colleagues.

Zhou Zilang's face reddened. "After seeing you in the corridor yesterday, I drew this for you. I hope you do not mind."

I lowered my guard and patted his shoulder gently. "Thank you."

Zhou Zilang stared at me without blinking.

Then he lowered his head and said in a trembling voice, "Time spent with you is wonderful. I wish we would never be separated."

I smiled. "I will come visit you often."

I closed the door and shook my head.

I was not sure if Warden Shang Xu had misjudged him.

How could this be an S-level inmate?

Five hours later, I knew the reason.
