June Wells left a childhood shaped by purity culture and built a career as a human sexuality professor on the brink of tenure.

That progress falters when Alex Cardoso, the childhood neighbor who rejected her in high school, returns as a PhD candidate assigned to his first human sexuality class with June as his mentor.

Her tenure is tied to his success, and the university also charges them with organizing Sextival, a campus sexual health event.

June has kept the real nature of her work from her ultraconservative parents, the school’s largest donors.

When her mother and their wealthy friends threaten to withdraw support unless Sextival is canceled, she and Alex refuse to surrender the event.
