The Ranger Medic's Promise

Combat medic Colin "Doc" Shaw has spent years bound to the last words of the Ranger who died in his arms: protect his sister.

Deputy Mara, unaware that her brother ever asked Doc to watch over her, has built an independent life in Eagle River while searching her brother's old field journal for the truth, and she has just uncovered evidence that someone betrayed Doc's Ranger unit in Afghanistan.

A photograph of Mara taken through a rifle scope sends Doc to the Last Stand Tavern and back among the Rangers he left behind, determined to keep her alive, expose the traitor, and disappear once more.

Mara wants no bodyguard, least of all a man who knows more about her brother's death than he will say.

Thrown together as that wartime conspiracy closes in, they find a love neither sought, while Mara still believes an old promise to her brother is what holds Doc in Eagle River rather than the promise he made to her.
