Chapter 37
One Year Later…
Lyric sat at the desk in her home office, scrolling through design mockups on her laptop. Samples of logos, color palettes, and store layouts filled the screen as she finalized plans for the boutique she planned to open in a few months.
She was so focused on comparing two different storefront signs that she barely noticed the twins charging into the room.
"Mama!"
"Mommy!"
"Zaire! Come get them. I'm trying to work," Lyric yelled.
A few seconds later, he appeared in the doorway.
"Come on, Daddy babies. Let Mommy work."
Both girls immediately abandoned Lyric and ran toward him.
"Thank you, my love."
"I got you."
Zaire scooped one twin under each arm before carrying them out of the room. The second the door closed behind them, Lyric's phone started ringing with a three-way FaceTime call from her sisters.
"Well look, Mel. It's our lucky day. She answered," Harmony said.
"Please don't do that. You know ever since we've been living in L.A., the time difference been fucking me up."
"Girl, whatever. Where my TT babies at?" Melody quizzed.
"In there with they daddy." Lyric pushed a loose strand of hair from out her face and replied.
"Damn, that's a big-ass ring," Melody exclaimed.
"Yeah. He snapped." She looked down at the diamond resting on her finger and smiled.
The sisters started talking over each other, demanding to see it again even though they had already seen it a hundred times. As the conversation continued, Lyric couldn't help but think about how much her life had changed.
Two years ago, she was sharing an apartment in the projects, trying to navigate motherhood while dealing with one problem after another. Now she was living in a six-bedroom mansion in Los Angeles with her fiancé, two beautiful daughters, and a boutique set to open in just a few months.
The thought made her smile as the conversation drifted to the sisters' upcoming trip to Belize. Soon, they were talking about everything from bathing suits and outfits to the excursions they planned on taking once they got there.
"First of all, I need everybody to understand I'm bringing looks," Harmony announced.
"You say that every trip," Melody replied.
"And every trip I deliver."
"I ain't worried about the outfits. I'm trying to figure out what excursions we doing." Melody stated.
"Everything. Ziplining, cave tubing, snorkeling, all that," Lyric answered.
"Girl, I am not jumping off no mountain."
"Nobody said anything about a mountain."
The sisters continued going back and forth about the trip, and the closer the vacation got, the more excited all of them seemed to become.
While Harmony and Melody argued about whether matching outfits were corny, an email notification popped up in the corner of Lyric's laptop screen. At first, she ignored it, but then the sender caught her attention.
"Hold on."
"What?" Melody asked.
"I just got a weird email."
"Girl, what? From who?" Harmony asked.
Lyric didn't answer. Instead, she read it aloud to her sisters.

Lyric stared at the email with her jaw on the floor. Life was good, no, life was great, and for twenty-year-old Lyric Young, it was about to get even better.
