Chapter Sixteen. #2
Taking a deep breath, I slammed the door open with a loud creak and bang and began moving. I jumped down and landed hard.
“Sinner!” Benjamin roared.
I took off in a staggering run. It was late afternoon, and I could see around me. We were in a field tucked behind some trees. A road was present to my left, while a house stood in the distance. Praying it was the right decision, I headed for it.
“Bitch! Sinner! Come back here!” Benjamin bellowed. Not a chance in hell. If my feet hadn’t been injured, I could have outstripped him. But instead, I was slower than usual. However, Benjamin’s weight worked against him.
We ran roughly at the same pace, and I had a head start. The house got closer, and my breath came in pants, but if I didn’t make it, then he’d take me back.
“Help!” I screamed as I closed in on it. I prayed someone was home, and that I hadn’t condemned myself.
“Help me!” I shrieked as Benjamin roared threats. Glancing behind me, I saw he was nearer and forced myself to run faster. I wailed in agony as my poor feet took even more torture.
“The house! Help!” I yelled as I shoved the gate open.
The door opened, and I almost collapsed as a middle-aged lady appeared.
She looked horrified, as she should, and then moved backwards.
I raced forward as someone grabbed my hair.
I yanked free and stumbled into the house.
The woman blocked the doorway, and a loud boom exploded.
I shrieked, covered my ears, and curled into a corner. A painful roar sounded from outside, followed by the door slamming shut.
“Shit on a stick. Nathan! Get me that blanket. Emma, call the police now. Joel, cover that with the shotgun! If he moves, blast him!” my heroine’s voice snapped.
“Royal Harlots. Call the Royal Harlots MC; I’m Nun. Please, please get in touch with my club!” I begged her, still curled in a ball. I was stark naked with everything on show, and I didn’t care.
“Here, Ma, a blanket. Holy fuck, is that girl naked?”
“Nathan, mind your eyes. Call the Royal Harlots MC, tell them we have their missing member!”
“What’s their number?”
“Nathan, must I take care of every single thing? Look it up!” Ma snapped. “Nun. Let me get this around you.”
“Call my club. Be careful. He’s a serial killer,” I said before passing out.
Priest
“There! It’s an open white trailer!” Blue exclaimed. I skidded to a stop, unsure how Blue had spotted that, and drove through the gates.
Blue was out before I even parked up, leaping inside. He reemerged several moments later.
“It’s his! There’re bodies inside. Not Nun’s, but there’s blood everywhere.” Blue’s eyes lit on something, and he jumped from the truck and began racing away. I turned and saw what he had. In the distance, a slight figure ran from a fatter one toward a house.
Nun! She’d escaped.
Blue and I tore after them, closing in. We heard a loud bang, and Benjamin fell backwards. He started screaming, and the front door slammed shut. We closed in as a young man appeared, holding a shotgun. He trained it on Benjamin and then caught sight of us. The gun moved, and we stopped.
“My woman, Nun, do you have her? Is she safe? Did she escape? Please, is she alive?” Blue begged.
“Ma, I got two more,” the guy exclaimed.
“Ma’am. I’m Nun’s boyfriend. We’ve been searching for her. Please, we need to see her!”
“You ain’t coming in. You might be with him. Stay there,” an older woman yelled.
“Is she alive?” Blue shrieked.
“Yes, but unconscious. That’s all I’m telling you. Joel, the police are on the way,” Ma replied.
“We can wait out here, ma’am, as long as we know Nun’s alive,” I responded, holding my hands up. I motioned for Blue to do the same and sat on the ground. Blue eyed Benjamin evilly.
“You fat, perverted fuck,” Blue yelled and launched at Benjamin.
“Oh, shit, Ma. One of the other guys is beating the pig guy,” Joel said.
“No skin off our nose. I think the asshole has it coming,” Ma called out.
I grinned and leaned back against the fence. Nun was alive; we could deal with anything else. Blue could beat the crap out of Benjamin; I was only too happy to let him.
Nun
“Stop carrying me everywhere,” I hissed at Priest, who smirked and picked me up again. This time he placed me on Blue’s lap as he headed off to fetch my dinner.
“Do you two plan to stop anytime soon?” I demanded.
“Nope. Hickson said you can’t walk for two weeks.”
“That’s only until Stitch is recovered,” I answered back.
“Stitch drained eight people healing Vengeance and six more with me. She won’t recover for a while,” Rose retorted.
“Shut up,” I snarled at her, and she grinned as Saxon, one of the stable, brought her over her takeout.
I reached out and grasped Vengeance’s hand, and she squeezed mine in return. My sisters were alive and at home. I’d been the one in hospital the longest. The doctor, Hickson, watched me closely and kept asking when Stitch would come back. He wasn’t a problem yet, but I could see him becoming one.
Ma, my rescuer, had shot Benjamin right in the junk, and there’d been no saving it. He had been arrested, and with him carrying the bodies around, it was a slam dunk. My family had been all over the news and media. Edith and Catherine had publicly disowned my parents, Charles, and Hillary.
Child Services had removed Hillary’s children into care. Catherine and Edith had reached out to me, but Priest had refused them. They didn’t get to wipe thirty years of abuse out. Charles’s wife had left him and taken their sons too.
Blue told them we wished them luck, but they weren’t my family.
My previous case had been dragged up, and my parents, Charles, and Hillary, were in the wars.
Not even their church friends wanted their stench around.
They’d been vilified and cast out. Now they could live with their actions.
They’d tried holding me responsible, which had backfired spectacularly.
Victim blaming never went down well in society.
Everything was tied up with a neat little bow.
Apart from my nightmares and scars. Stitch could remove the scars when she healed; she’d done it once before, but it bothered Priest and Blue.
All three of us remained on edge, and it would take time for us to settle down.
Benjamin had nearly ripped our lives to pieces, but I wouldn’t let him succeed.
Healing would take a while. But life moved on, and I’d move with it. Benjamin didn’t get to take my future.
“Hey. Where are the plans for the house? Let’s make the amends we want,” I called to Priest.
Blue chuckled, his arms around me. I leaned my head on his chest and was somehow certain everything would be okay.
