Chapter Thirty Four
Reid
It’s been an exhausting week of moving my parents out and packing up my stuff after long shifts at the clinic.
A lot of pizza on the floor nights with Poppy and packing parties.
Caroline stopped by one evening to get out of the house after an argument with her mom.
I’m grateful she brought smoothies because that’s probably the most nourishment I’ve had all week.
Although we kept our hands to ourselves, we did get a little distracted while watching Grey’s Anatomy.
Caroline claimed she couldn’t move to help pack boxes after Poppy got comfy in her lap.
Can’t say I blame her on that one, she seems to be the only person that cat is drawn to.
It’s Friday morning and I finally got the keys after signing closing papers today.
The process of buying my first home has definitely looked different than most people’s, but I am grateful for the speedy process, good deal, and easy company of getting to keep my family home.
Needless to say, I skipped out on the inspection and other item fees.
It feels odd even using a key to enter the front door of a house that I lived in for years.
Let’s be honest, I will still rely on the garage door code and never see this key again after today.
While my parents took a lot of their personal belongings, the majority of the house has stayed intact and is still furnished with the original items. Again, not your average first home but thankful nonetheless.
I kick my shoes off and shut the door. It sure is nice to have something to call your own and a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders, knowing this house won’t go to any random strangers or not knowing what they would possibly change about it.
I only brought one duffel bag over today. The rest can wait until tomorrow. For now, I wander upstairs to my childhood bedroom to rest on the most comfortable bed ever.

I awake in a frenzy, not even realizing I fell asleep.
I hop out of bed in the dark, wondering what the heck time it is.
Finding my phone, I see it’s after 7PM. I must’ve taken a late nap.
Wow, I needed that sleep but talk about messing up my schedule now.
I stroll downstairs to the kitchen to find something to eat, but am greeted only by an expired can of beans in the pantry.
I plop on the couch to figure out what to order.
Unlocking my phone, I am overwhelmed by missed texts and notifications.
But there’s only one that draws my attention. A message from Caroline.
CAROLINE: “So, are you going to take me out on a proper date or what?”
I can’t help but laugh. I guess she has a point though. I so easily fell back into our comfortable rhythm that I almost forgot how to properly court someone.
ME: “Well, are you free tonight?”
I realized after I hit send that she sent her message over an hour ago. It takes her a few minutes to respond.
CAROLINE: “Oh, how romantic. Not exactly what I had in mind though. I was hoping for something a little more planned out. This feels like more of a booty call.”
ME: “Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. Doesn’t answer my question.”
CAROLINE: “Ugh fine, if you must know… yes, I am lame and completely free on this fine Friday evening.”
ME: “And are you hungry?”
CAROLINE: “Always. Next question.”
ME: “Grab some shoes, I’m on the way.”
