Chapter Forty Nine
Caroline
It’s nearly dinner time when I get back to the house. The pampering day was really nice for some peace and quiet but my tits are so full they could burst and I am beyond anxious to get back to my baby and man.
I crack the front door open to a baseball game playing on the TV and Reid laying on the couch for a nap. Next to him, Chloe lays peacefully in the pack n play. I decide to leave them be and tip toe upstairs to pump before I explode.
I come back down to the kitchen to wash my pump parts and bag some milk before deciding to join the two of them for nap time. I grab the blanket at Reid's feet and snuggle in with him. This is exactly what I needed to end my day with.
“I’m so glad you’re here,” I whisper, nuzzled into his neck.
“You? Yeah me too,” he chuckles, half asleep.
“Hahah yeah, I think we make a pretty good team,” I respond, just grateful to be here in this moment with him. And I silently pray that it’s for good this time.
“Do you know what tomorrow is?” Reid whispers back, changing the subject.
“Shhh… I’m in denial over here.” Obviously I know what tomorrow is, how could I forget? But I am also pretending that I am not about to turn thirty years old.
“Well, you’re gonna have to accept it at some point because I’m taking you out.”
“Out? Did you forget about Sleeping Beauty over there?” I say, looking over at the pack n play.
“I talked to my mom today. She’s going to come over and watch her for us.”
“Really?! Are you sure she’s okay with that? Where are we going?” I’m excited, exhausted, and terrified all at the same time. Trying not to break my whisper and wake Chloe up, but can’t hold back.
“Yes, really. We’re going to Palazzo for a little birthday dinner treat.” Reid snuggles his face into my chest.
“Like the fancy Italian restaurant up north?” My eyes grow, no longer tired enough for a nap.
“That’s the one.” He seems much less interested in this opportunity, but I guess I did wake him up.
“Ugh thanks so much.” I squeeze him in a hug and pull him closer to me, neither of us being able to breathe. “But can you please try not to fuck it up and stand me up like you did for my last birthday with you?” I couldn’t help but ruin the moment, huh?
“That’s why I want to make it up to you. I think we need to turn it into a happy day with some better memories, don’t you?” Reid is unphased by my cynicism.
“Yes, I just had to give you some shit first. Can’t let you forget it, just yet,” I tease, trying to lighten the mood back up.
