Chapter 43
Present
In room number twenty-two, Siggy snored softly. Her dreams were filled of Danial and a vision of a future she couldn’t quite pin down, but left a sweet taste in her mouth.
The remains of a glass of white wine sat on the bedside table next to her.
She’d drunk half of it, but she was so tired, and it was a long day.
The argument with her mother and the walk back into the village had left her feeling drained.
When she sank down into the bed and her head touched the pillow, she experienced that most delightful feeling of utter exhaustion rewarded with crisp cotton sheets and a pitch-black room – thanks to the blackout curtains and total silence.
For one delicious moment it felt as if she was the only person in the whole universe.
And of course, it was made even more soothing because no one knew she was here.
She sighed with a measure of deep contentment.
She’d made up her mind. Her mother couldn’t keep her a prisoner here forever, the worst was over, it was out in the open.
She just wanted to drift off into a deep, deep sleep and tomorrow she could send her mother a text and tell her that she was staying here in the hotel.
For now, she was happy not one person had any idea she was here.
Perfect.
