Chapter 103 - Nothing Between Us

Silas felt it before he saw her.

A shift in the air.

A lightness that hadn't been there before.

He turned as Athena stepped into the corridor, and for a moment neither of them moved.

She looked... different.

Not in appearance.

In presence.

Like something invisible had finally fallen away from her.

Silas crossed the space between them slowly, almost cautiously, as if he didn't want to break whatever had changed.

Athena stopped a few feet from him.

Her eyes searched his face, soft but certain.

"It's done," she said quietly.

Silas nodded once.

"I felt it."

She exhaled shakily.

"I didn't realize how much of him I was still carrying until it was gone."

Her voice trembled, not with sadness, but with relief so deep it almost hurt.

Silas reached for her carefully, his hands settling at her waist.

Not possessive.

Not demanding.

Just... present.

Athena stepped closer willingly.

Her forehead rested lightly against his chest.

"I feel lighter," she admitted.

Silas closed his eyes briefly, breathing her in like he had been holding his breath for days.

"You are," he said.

She looked up at him.

Tears filled her eyes, but they didn't fall.

"I'm not tied to anything anymore," she whispered.

Silas's thumb brushed gently along her side.

"I know."

Her hand came to rest against his chest, fingers curling into his shirt.

"There's nothing holding me back anymore."

The words hung between them.

Heavy with meaning.

Silas's chest tightened.

Not with desire.

With emotion.

With the realization that this woman-this powerful, brave, stubborn woman-had fought her way out of a life she didn't choose and into one she was claiming for herself.

"I have never been more proud of you," he said softly.

Athena smiled faintly.

"I'm proud of me too."

Silas let out a quiet breath that almost sounded like a laugh.

He hadn't expected that answer.

But it made something warm spread through his chest.

They stood there for a long moment, just holding each other.

No rush.

No urgency.

Just the quiet understanding that for the first time...

Nothing stood between them.
