Chapter Six

Finally, she couldn’t wait, watching her sister pace back and forth, Jelly Bean asked, “Do you remember the name of this boat?”

Rebel paused and thought about it then she snapped her fingers, she looked at Jelly Bean and nodded. “Yeah, I remember it now, it’s called the Brigadoon.”

Storm snorted. “The Brigadoon? That’s just not right.”

Jelly Bean scoffed, “Really it is, he’s like here one day and gone the next. Just like the book.”

“Like a book? That doesn’t mean a damn thing and you fucking know it.” Storm scoffed.

“Sure, I know it but Big Mac doesn’t seem to.

And if you ever read it, you might get it,” Rebel explained.

“In this story, Brigadoon is a village that’s not listed on any maps.

A local miracle keeps the town safe from outside corruption by making it live for just one day per century.

” She shrugged. “Besides, this is Mac’s fantasy, not mine. You savvy?”

Lighting nodded and quipped, “Well, has it been a century yet?”

Storm crossed his large arms over his wide chest. “I call BS. He’s full of shit.”

“Oh, for the love of...” Jelly Bean looked disgusted. “Of course he is. The man is a walking pig. His belly is about to hit the ground last I saw. But I don’t care about him. Only that I want to put him six feet under, you get that?”

The whole group stared at her as they all gave her a slow nod of their heads.

“Good,” Jelly Bean said. “Let’s just go and see if this Brigadoon is even at the docks right now. We need to find Oscar and get him off that ship before Fat Mac slices his throat. I can’t lose him.”

Storm looked over at her and he could see the stress on her. The old man was important to many. But to Jelly Bean, this was about her family. He nodded then they left the mansion.

He drove them away in a non-descript vehicle Leon had in his massive garage. Nothing fancy. An old Chevy. But it did look odd sitting alongside limos, Bentleys and a Rolls Royce.

When they got closer to the dock area, Storm hid the car. They all got out and broke up as everyone headed in a different direction. They all stayed hidden while looking for a ship called the Brigadoon.

Jelly Bean squatted down at the end of the pier and studied the boat in front of her.

She’d found it. The words on the side painted in gold read, The Brigadoon.

She sent a text to Storm and waited for them to show up.

She studied the boat carefully. She also noted the three men walking around the deck and saw the route they took.

She heard a sound behind her and grasped her gin then turned to look.

Storm gave her a nod as he raised his hands.

Soon everyone else joined them.

Jelly Bean pointed at the boat without saying a word.

“Any idea where they might be keeping him?” Rebel asked in a whisper.

Jelly Bean pointed to the last window on the left side. “It is covered.”

When Storm looked over to study it, he nodded. “That’s about right.” He noted the three men walking the deck. “Only three goons with guns?”

Jelly Bean nodded. “No sign of Mac yet and that worries me.”

Rebel leaned forward and whispered, “Just wait, he’ll be on deck soon enough.” He always checks things out. I used to see him step on deck all the time. Like almost every damn hour. He’s a control freak like that.”

Just then, the door to the cabin opened and Mac came out. He paused to survey the deck and the docks.

Everyone stayed hidden and still as they watched his every move.

After a few minutes, the big man went back to the cabin.

Jelly Bean finally moved away from the slip where his ship was.

The rest of the group followed her.

When they were far enough away Storm growled, “Ok, we found him. So how do we take his boat over before he leaves the harbor?”

“We make it impossible for him to go anywhere.” Jelly bean told them

“What are you saying?” Storm asked.

“First, we steal his keys so the boat isn’t going anywhere. And for that we need someone who knows how to do it carefully and without warning.”

“And you know someone like that?” Lightning asked her.

Jelly Bean smiled. “I know someone just like that and he’s gonna be happy to do the job.” She took her cell out and sent a text.

An hour later, Big Mac strolled off deck with two of his guards. They headed down the dock and got into a car.

The group looked astonished at this big chance.

“Oh damn, now is the time,” Storm commented.

Jelly Bean’s man Trick had shown up and when he heard what she wanted him to do he smiled. “I’d love to help. I love boats and I hate Big Mac.”

Storm nodded, “Great. Let’s not waste any time.

Me and Tornado will distract the guard, you get the keys.

Jelly Bean and Rebel can check out the boat to see if Oscar is here.

We’ve got to get aboard and back off quick-like, so we have time to get away too.

” Shaking his head he admitted, “We don’t know how long Mac is gonna be away and I don’t want to leave Oscar here. ”

Jelly Bean snarled and her hand tightened on the bat. “ We kill him if we have to. He better not have hurt Oscar.”

They all waited until Storm and Tornado took the two guards out.

Trick got into the cabin and dismantled the boat, then he swiped the keys.

Jelly Bean and Rebel slipped through the darkness with their bats in prime places to deal with anyone else on the boat. When they reached the door with the blocked window, Jelly Bean reached out but found the door was locked. “Fuck,” she swore in a whisper.

Then they heard footsteps behind them and they turned bats ready.

“It’s me,” Trick called out softly.

Jelly Bean lowered her bat down at her side.

When Trick stepped closer he asked, “Why haven’t you gone in yet?”

Jelly Bean pointed at the door and said, “It’s locked.”

Trick grinned. “Let me see.” He knelt in front of the floor and grinned as he studied the lock for a moment.

Reaching inside his jacket, he pulled out a small set of tools.

“It shouldn’t take long to pick this lock Ms. Jelly.

It’s an old one.” He fiddled with the lock and when it unlocked a soft click sounded louder than it was. Then he reached up and opened the door.

When all three stepped into the room, they found Oscar in the far corner in chains that were wrapped around a hook above him. He’d been beaten and gagged.

He raised his head and stared at the three of them. Then his eyes lit up when he saw Jelly Bean.

Trick rushed over to him and began working on the chain lock.

When it finally popped open, Jelly Bean was there with Rebel to help Oscar up to his feet.

Jelly Bean carefully peeled the tape from his mouth and placed her hand on his cheek. “Are you okay?” she whispered softly.

Oscar nodded.

“We have to go before Mac gets back,” she informed him.

They made their way back to the dock.
