Chapter Seven

When they stepped off the ship, Storm and Tornado were there as well. They moved poor Oscar to the shadows. They made their way back to the vehicle slowly and cautiously, almost half expecting Mac to step from the shadow and confront them.

They all had weapons but they didn’t want Oscar to be hit.

They got to the car safely and loaded Oscar inside.

Storm got behind the wheel and drove through side streets, avoiding any main avenues of business.

Silence filled the car as they all barely breathed heavily.

The tension was that thick. They would have a shootout if they got caught and they would do that if they had to.

But they just did not want to get into a battle just now.

They just needed to get Oscar some help.

Finally, after what felt like hours, they got back to the mansion and drove through the gates. Only when the gate closed behind them did any of them relax.

“Halle-fucking-luyah!” Lightning exclaimed with a laugh.

Leon opened the doors and watched as the girls helped Oscar out of the vehicle. He groaned as he got to his feet.

With Jelly Bean on one side and Rebel on the other they wouldn’t let the guys take him. They helped him climb the stairs.

Oscar saw who was waiting for him at the top and he smiled. “Mr. Leon, I’m very glad to see you.”

Leon grinned back. “I’m very glad to see you too, Oscar. My doctor is waiting for you, then you can tell us what happened to you.” He moved out of the way. He then looked at Storm and his men and motioned to the girls helping Oscar.

Storm shook his head and said, “They wouldn’t let us help.”

The girls took him into the house and John showed them which room to put him in.

After Oscar laid down on the bed he looked for Leon and when he met his gaze, he said, “You need to hear what I overheard on that boat. Bad things are coming this way.”

Leon stepped closer to the bed and reached out and patted Oscar’s hands. “Do not worry. I have a feeling we already know what’s coming and we won’t let it happen. But first, old friend, we have to see to your injuries. Once Dr. Badliss has looked at you, then we will speak.”

Oscar shook his head. “No, I have to tell you this first.”

Jelly Bean stepped up and took Oscar’s hand. “Hey, old man, you need to listen for once. Let the doctor check you out then we can talk. And if Leon says we won’t let the bad guys win, then we won’t let them win.”

Oscar shook his head as he looked upset. “It’s gonna take all of us to win this war, my girl. And from what Mac was saying, it might be a bigger battle than we realize.”

Jelly Bean smiled. “And we got our own army too. You know that.”

Oscar closed his eyes for a moment then he opened them and grinned. “You know it, honey girl. And Leon has his own friends too.”

“Damn right, he does.” Jelly Bean smirked.

Dr. Badliss joined them and shook his head. “Oscar what kind of trouble did you get yourself in now?”

Oscar snorted. “Don’t blame this on me doc, I was kidnapped and taken hostage this time. I didn’t do this on purpose.”

The doctor just shook his head, “Let’s just take off your shirt then and let me have a look.”

Oscar looked over at Jelly Bean and Rebel. “Not in front of the ladies Doc, a man needs some privacy.”

Rebel snorted and giggled.

Jelly Bean rolled her eyes but she grabbed Rebel and headed for the door. Jelly Bean then looked back. “We’re leaving but I want to hear what happened so call us back in as soon as you’re decent again.” She closed the door behind them.

Rebel just stared at her and asked, “Why did we have to leave? It was just getting fun.”

Jelly Bean scoffed. “Oscar is kind of old fashioned. In all the time we were together, while I was growing up he said our bodies belonged to ourselves. He would never be undressed around me and he would never let me be undressed around him. He said it was common decency.” She went on to explain, “He taught me wrong from right, manners and a whole lot more. How to survive living on the streets and what to beware of. How to protect myself. He was like a father to me all those years after my own father walked away. It’s a matter of respect to him. ”

Rebel stopped giggling. She nodded her head and said, “At least, you had him. I had the system for a long time then my own pride got the better of me and I had to learn the hard way that pride doesn’t fill your stomach. I wasted years learning about that.”

Jelly Bean nodded remembering Rebel’s struggle with living on the streets, refusing anyone’s help and her attitude toward everyone. She did feel glad to have her as a true sister now. “I wonder what Oscar overheard?”

Rebel snorted. “Whatever it was, he's plenty scared of it. Makes a person wonder what hell Big Mac plans to bring here doesn’t it? I mean we all know he’s a dealer pushing drugs but what else can he do?”

Jelly Bean shook her head. “Don’t forget that slime Ricco thought he was going to join the Gondo Cartel and he believed that killing Leon was going to get him a spot in that group.”

“But did he really think he could make up his own cartel?” Rebel asked the question aloud. “He said he had his men coming right behind him and he’s already been here for days.”

Jelly Bean looked over at her sister. “Damn, I forgot about that. Between his own men and Big Mac, maybe he was going to start his own cartel.”

Rebel snorted again. “But Ricco doesn’t have the power to do that. Big Mac doesn’t take second chair to nobody and even Ricco knows that. Or at least he should. Big Mac would have put a bullet in his head first thing.”

Jelly Bean scoffed. “Yeah, but Ricco doesn’t think like that. The dickless wonder is so self-centered that he only thinks he’s got the power. He’s lucky Mac hasn’t shot him yet.”

“Maybe Fat Guy was waiting for the rest of Ricco’s men to get here before he made his move against Ricco?” Rebel suggested.

“Guess we’ll have to wait and see what Oscar says to know the truth.” Jelly Bean said as she looked back at the door. After several more minutes, she was busy pacing back and forth waiting for someone to open the door. She kept checking her phone too.

Rebel slid down the wall and sat on the carpeted floor. She also looked at her phone. “I want to check on Jesse.”

It took another twenty-five minutes before Storm opened the door and let them back in.
