Chapter 6 The Table
Song Yu called out to Song Chengyuan, who stood at a distance. "Song Chengyuan, where are you going? Come greet your Aunt Xu and little sister Lin Ruxu."
Song Chengyuan acted as if he had not seen us. He headed straight inside after getting out of the car.
Only when he heard Song Yu's voice did he turn his head slightly.
He raised an eyebrow and gave a mocking smile. "I don't have time to play along with your fatherly act."
"You—" Song Yu choked with anger.
Mother looked worried and patted his back. "Why argue with a child? Song Chengyuan simply needs time to adjust."
Such pleasant words.
My mother could be tolerant and forgiving to anyone—except me.
Song Yu coughed a few times. "It's fine. The wind is strong outside. Let's go in."
The dining table was already covered with dishes Mother had spent a long time preparing.
She smiled nervously. "I didn't know what Song Chengyuan likes, so I made a few things."
Song Yu patted her shoulder. "You've worked hard, Yunru."
The three of us sat down, but Song Chengyuan was nowhere to be seen.
Song Yu's expression darkened, yet he forced a smile for our sake. "I'll call him."
He had barely stood when Song Chengyuan came downstairs.
Xu Yunru quietly exhaled in relief, then put on a loving face. "Song Chengyuan, come eat."
Song Chengyuan pulled out his chair with a screech and sat across from me.
I stole a glance at him.
Song Chengyuan did not disappoint. He noticed and stared back coldly.
I lowered my head until only a stretch of pale neck showed.
No man could resist such a sight.
A weak, innocent, pretty sister—was she not the perfect weapon to retaliate against Xu Yunru and Song Yu?
