Chapter 19 Dinner at the Table

Song Chengyuan glanced at me without much interest and did not say anything else to make the atmosphere worse.

He was not good at conversation.

"The food will get cold. Eat first," Aunt Wang said quickly to ease the tension.

Song Chengyuan and I sat across from each other at the table.

"I asked Aunt Wang what Brother likes. She said he prefers lighter flavors, so I made a few dishes based on that."

Song Chengyuan raised an eyebrow.

He picked up a piece of steamed perch and tasted it carefully.

I sat nervously, waiting for his verdict.

"Not bad."

I was surprised. I had not expected praise from him.

No one had ever complimented my cooking before. My happiness felt more genuine than usual.

Still, this would be the only time I cooked for him.

Cooking once showed some feeling. Doing it often would make it seem expected.

I was here as his lover, not his nanny.

"So happy?"

"Yes. I am happy because Brother is the first person to praise my cooking."
