Chapter 23 The Kiss
Before I could finish, Song Chengyuan pulled me into a tight embrace.
It was one of the few intimate moments we had shared.
I was not a very successful lover. Song Chengyuan was too much of a gentleman.
I buried my face against him and let myself enjoy his warmth and steadiness.
He loosened his hold but stayed close, looking at me with an expression I could not read.
I did not look away. My pulse quickened.
For once I wanted to follow my own heart.
Song Chengyuan leaned in. His fingers slid through my hair.
When our lips met, my mind went blank. I only felt the softness against my mouth.
His breathing grew heavy. He nipped my lower lip. My fingers tightened on his suit jacket, wrinkling the fine fabric.
When we parted, our foreheads stayed pressed together, our breaths mingling in the small space.
He wiped the smudged lipstick from my mouth. The touch of his thumb made me tremble more than the kiss.
"Your lipstick is ruined," he said in a low voice beside my ear.
I shivered and answered without backing down. "You ate it all."
Song Chengyuan's hold tightened on me.
