Chapter Twenty Six #2

Benji nodded then closed the door. Behind the door were some shelves with toiletries and towels.

Glancing towards the shower, he spotted the bottles that Sawyer had been using and figured he could use that.

No need to open another. After taking a quick piss and taking off his clothes, he warmed up the shower and hopped in.

The moment the hot water hit his sore body, he released a groan of pleasure.

It felt so good. He didn’t realize how badly he had been needing the shower.

For a good three minutes, he just stood in the water spray, letting the water rinse the events from the last week off of him.

Thoughts of what happened swarmed in his head and he closed his eyes, willing them to go away.

He didn’t need those anymore. He was out of there.

He was safe. Thinking about that shit wasn’t going to help anything.

Benji eventually managed to push those thoughts down and got to work actually bathing himself.

It felt really nice to wash his hair, which was more knotted than he thought.

Luckily, there was some conditioner in there too.

So while he scrubbed at his body with a loofah, he let that sit in his hair, hoping it would assist a bit.

About ten minutes later, he was hopping out of the shower and drying off his body with the towel he grabbed.

Benji threw his clothes on then grabbed one of the hairbrushes that were provided for them.

He spent some time brushing his hair then grabbed a toothbrush and toothpaste so he could brush his teeth.

It was a little counter intuitive to brush his teeth before they were going to eat dinner, but in his defense, he hadn’t done it in quite a while.

Benji took special care around the hole in his mouth and hissed a bit when the toothpaste got in said hole.

But it was going to happen, he supposed.

Stepping out of the bathroom, he threw his towel into his bedroom and looked over to Sawyer’s, not seeing him in there. Benji walked downstairs and spotted Sawyer on the couch, fully dressed now. Good. “You weren’t lying. That was nice.”

“Right? I always thought the bunker had shitty showers but I didn’t really have anything to compare it to,” he smiled, “I was right. They are shitty.”

“Well, they’re burnt to the ground now, so I guess they have an opportunity to redo them.” Benji shrugged as he sat down on the couch as well. “You look around at anything?”

“Yeah. Why are all the movies so…sad?”

“I was wondering the same thing. Such an odd selection,” Benji laughed, “But to be fair, Jackson is an eccentric guy, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.”

“Maybe he thinks people who stay at these houses need a good cry.”

He shrugged. “Probably not wrong about that.”

“Probably not,” Sawyer chuckled.

The two sat together, discussing the odd things around the house when the text tone of the burner phone went off.

Running upstairs to grab it, he came back down and walked over to the front door.

Apparently the medic was out there. Peeking out the peephole, he spotted a woman with a bag standing with her hands folded over one another on her bag.

Still with some caution, he unlocked the door just enough to show a sliver of his body.

The woman smiled. “Hi, I’m here on behalf of Jackson. ”

He nodded his head and opened the door further to let her in. “Thanks for coming out.”

“Not a problem. I’m Lindsey.”

“Benji. This is Sawyer.”

“Nice to meet you two. What am I patching up today?”

Benji huffed and sat back down on the couch. “You can take care of him first.” His hand was more of a concern than anything else.

Lindsey approached Sawyer and placed her bag on the ground. “I just…I have this–” he raised his wounded hand, “I know it’s probably fucked and I need…more than what you can do, but, I don’t know, maybe you can do something.”

She hissed at the sight of it and gingerly grabbed his wrist so that she could further investigate the wound. “Jesus, this is…bad.”

“I know,” Sawyer sighed.

“You’ll probably need a surgeon to actually do anything about this but I can sew it back up. I, unfortunately, don’t have any skin grafts with me,” she half-joked.

“Whatever you can do would be great. I also have some burns on my back… I think those will need to be re-bandaged.”

“That I can do.” Lindsey flashed him a kind smile before she went digging into her bag for the supplies she would need.

She took her time sewing up his hand, shaking her head the whole time.

She apparently really didn’t like that. “Tomorrow, if we can sterilize the area, I think I can do something about this.”

“What, really?” Sawyer asked, his eyes glinting with hope.

“Yeah. I think it’ll just need a quick flap placement. I can come back tomorrow morning with the supplies and we’ll get it patched up.”

“Wow. Thank you so much…”
