Chapter 6
The Queen's Warning
The next morning, Queen Seraphine summoned Elara privately.
Unlike the king, the queen did not appear angry.
She appeared afraid.
"You must leave the palace," she said.
Elara shook her head.
"I want answers."
"You may not survive them."
The queen approached the window.
"Years ago, the royal family made a terrible decision. A bloodline connected to the throne was driven into exile."
"Why?"
"Because the council feared what would happen if the two bloodlines ever united."
Elara stared at her.
"And my family?"
The queen remained silent.
That silence was enough.
"You know who I am."
The queen finally turned.
"You are descended from the Moonborn line."
Elara's heart raced.
"What does that mean?"
"It means your existence could challenge the balance of power."
Before the conversation could continue, the door opened.
Kael entered.
The queen looked at him sadly.
"Your father will never allow this bond."
Kael's expression hardened.
"Then he will have to stop me himself."
The queen sighed.
"You both still don't understand. The greatest danger isn't the king."
A distant howl echoed through the palace.
"The danger is already inside the kingdom."
