Chapter 8
A Promise Under the Moon
The attack was stopped before the palace could fall.
But the kingdom had suffered its first major warning.
Someone had opened the gates from within.
The traitor remained unidentified.
Later that night, Kael found Elara standing beneath the moon.
"You shouldn't have been anywhere near the fighting," he said.
"I saw the traitor before the attack."
Kael became still.
"Who?"
"I don't know yet."
He stepped closer.
"Then we'll find out together."
Elara looked at him.
"What happens when your father discovers you are protecting me?"
Kael's expression softened.
"I've spent my entire life preparing to become king."
He looked toward the moon.
"But no one ever taught me what to do when destiny asks me to choose."
Elara lowered her gaze.
"And what will you choose?"
Kael answered without hesitation.
"You."
For a moment, the kingdom seemed silent around them.
But beyond the palace walls, a hidden enemy watched from the darkness.
The ancient prophecy had begun.
And the bond between the Wolf Heir and his forbidden mate was becoming impossible to break.
