Chapter 12 This Is Why Shell Never Be Good Enough

Chapter 12

"This Is Why She'll Never Be Good Enough"

For one terrible second, nobody moved.

Rain continued pouring softly around them while Savita Oberoi stood frozen near the entrance steps, fury burning openly across her face.

Beside her, Naina looked equally stunned.

Not because Arjun kissed his wife.

But because of the way he kissed her.

Like a man completely undone.

Savita recovered first.

"What exactly is happening here?"

Her sharp voice cut through the tension instantly.

Aadhira stepped away from Arjun immediately, heart pounding wildly now. The warmth of his hands still lingered on her waist, making everything feel even worse somehow.

Savita looked disgusted.

"This behavior in front of the staff? Have you both completely lost your senses?"

Arjun's expression hardened immediately. "Enough, Mom."

But Savita ignored him entirely.

Her eyes locked onto Aadhira instead.

Of course.

Always Aadhira.

"I knew this drama at the party wasn't enough for you," Savita snapped coldly. "Now you're creating scenes outside too?"

Pain flashed briefly across Aadhira's face.

Even now...

Even after seeing her son kiss his wife-

Savita somehow blamed only her.

Arjun noticed it too.

And for the first time in years, irritation toward his mother rose sharply instead of fading away.

"She didn't create anything," he said coldly.

Savita looked at him in disbelief. "Arjun."

"No." His voice deepened dangerously. "You don't get to speak to her like that anymore."

Silence crashed instantly.

Aadhira stared at him.

Naina stared at him.

Even Savita looked shocked.

Because Arjun Oberoi had never openly opposed his mother over Aadhira before.

Never.

Savita laughed bitterly. "Amazing. Suddenly you remember you have a wife?"

The sentence landed harder than intended.

Arjun's jaw tightened.

Savita stepped closer now, anger spilling freely after years of control.

"This is exactly why she'll never be good enough for this family."

Aadhira visibly flinched.

That tiny reaction was enough.

Something inside Arjun snapped instantly.

"Stop."

The warning in his voice turned deadly quiet.

But Savita was too angry to care anymore.

"She brought emotional instability into this house from the beginning," she continued sharply. "Girls from ordinary backgrounds always become insecure once they enter powerful families."

Aadhira's eyes lowered slowly.

Familiar humiliation.

The same poison she had endured for years.

Except tonight felt different.

Because before Savita could continue-

Arjun stepped in front of Aadhira completely.

Protectively.

The movement stunned everyone.

Including Aadhira herself.

"She is my wife," he said slowly, each word dangerously controlled. "And if anyone in this family humiliates her again, they answer to me."

Savita looked genuinely shaken now.

Not because of his anger.

Because of the loyalty behind it.

For years she believed Arjun's emotional distance meant the marriage itself meant nothing to him.

Tonight proved otherwise.

Naina noticed it too.

The terrifying realization that Arjun's feelings for Aadhira were no longer hidden even from himself.

Savita's expression hardened again. "You're defending her after she publicly insulted this family?"

"She asked for divorce," Arjun corrected coldly. "That's between me and my wife."

My wife.

The possessiveness in those two words sent tension through the air instantly.

Aadhira closed her eyes briefly.

God.

Why now?

Why after years of silence?

Savita looked at Aadhira with open disappointment. "Do you know how much embarrassment you caused today?"

Aadhira finally looked up.

And for the first time in years-

She didn't look afraid.

"No," she answered softly. "But I know exactly how much pain your son caused."

Silence.

Savita looked stunned.

Aadhira herself looked surprised she finally said it aloud.

Arjun watched her carefully, something painful moving through his expression.

Because despite everything-

She still spoke more about pain than blame.

Naina suddenly stepped forward quietly, trying to ease the tension. "Maybe everyone should calm down-"

"No," Savita interrupted sharply. "This family has tolerated enough."

Then her eyes landed back on Aadhira with cold finality.

"If you truly want divorce, maybe it's for the best."

The words echoed heavily in the rain.

Aadhira's chest tightened painfully despite expecting them.

But before she could react-

Arjun spoke.

Immediate.

Firm.

"No."

Everyone looked at him instantly.

Even Aadhira froze.

Arjun's eyes never left hers as he repeated quietly-

"I'm not divorcing her."

The world seemed to stop for a second.

Aadhira stared at him in disbelief.

Savita looked furious. "Arjun, don't be ridiculous."

But he ignored everyone else completely.

His attention remained fixed only on Aadhira.

Dark eyes. Wet hair. Hurt expression.

The woman he suddenly could not imagine losing.

"You want honesty?" he said lowly, voice rough from emotions he barely understood himself. "Fine."

Aadhira's heartbeat became unstable again.

Because something in his tone warned her this moment would change everything.

Arjun stepped closer slowly.

Then, in front of his mother, Naina, and the entire watching staff near the mansion entrance-

He finally admitted the truth he spent years running from.

"I'm in love with my wife."

Dead silence followed instantly.

Savita looked horrified.

Naina closed her eyes briefly like she had expected this coming.

And Aadhira-

Aadhira looked completely shattered.

Because the one thing she had begged silently to hear for years...

Came only after she decided to leave him.
