Chapter 15

The Moment She Walked Away Again

Aadhira's backward step felt louder than any argument in the mansion.

Arjun noticed it instantly.

His entire expression shifted.

"Aadhira-wait."

But she didn't.

Because for the first time all night, clarity hit her harder than emotion.

Savita's words weren't just bitterness.

They were fear.

And worse-

They were not entirely wrong.

Arjun took one step forward, then another, faster now.

"Don't go," he said, voice lower. "Not like this."

Aadhira stopped near the edge of the porch, rain mist brushing against her face again.

She didn't turn around immediately.

Because if she did-

She might not be strong enough to leave.

Behind her, Arjun stood frozen for a second before speaking again, more urgently this time.

"I'm not doing this because of Naina."

Silence.

Aadhira closed her eyes briefly.

"I'm not doing this because I saw another man either," he continued, voice rough. "I'm doing this because I finally realized what I've been losing."

She slowly turned back.

Her eyes were red now.

"So what changed?" she asked softly. "Yesterday I was invisible. Today I'm everything?"

Arjun flinched.

Because that was exactly what it looked like.

"I was wrong," he admitted.

Aadhira gave a faint broken smile. "That's not enough."

"I know."

The honesty again.

No excuses.

No deflection.

Just him standing there, finally stripped of control.

Aadhira looked at him for a long moment.

And Arjun saw it.

The distance forming again.

Slow.

Careful.

Permanent.

Panic tightened inside his chest instantly.

"Tell me what to do," he said again, quieter now. "I'll do anything."

Anything.

That word should have meant everything.

But instead-

It made her sad.

Because love wasn't supposed to come as a negotiation after destruction.

Aadhira shook her head slowly.

"You don't understand, Arjun."

"Then make me understand."

Her voice cracked slightly. "I can't heal in the same place I was broken."

Silence.

Even the rain seemed quieter.

Arjun stood still.

Because that sentence-

That sentence had no solution he could offer.

Savita watched from the doorway, unusually silent now.

Even Naina had stopped speaking.

Because everyone understood what was happening.

This wasn't just a fight anymore.

It was an ending.

Arjun took a slow step forward again.

"Leave with me," he said suddenly.

Aadhira blinked.

"What?"

"Just come with me tonight," he repeated. "No arguments. No divorce papers. Just-stay somewhere away from all this."

Aadhira looked at him like she didn't recognize him.

"You think distance fixes this?"

"I think silence helps."

Her lips trembled slightly.

"No," she whispered. "Silence is what destroyed us."

That hit him harder than anything else.

Because she was right again.

Arjun's hand slowly lowered.

For the first time, he looked completely unsure.

Not of business.

Not of power.

But of her.

Aadhira stepped back one final time.

This time, Arjun didn't stop her immediately.

And that silence between them said everything.

But just as she turned fully toward the gate-

His voice broke through again.

Lower.

Almost broken.

"If you walk away now... I won't survive it."

Aadhira froze.

Rain fell harder for a second, as if the sky itself was reacting.

Slowly, she turned her head slightly.

Arjun stood there completely still.

No arrogance.

No mask.

Just a man finally saying the truth too late.

And for a second-

Aadhira almost went back.

Almost.

But then she remembered every night she cried alone.

Every dinner she ate in silence.

Every time she chose him and he didn't choose her back.

Her voice came out barely above a whisper.

"You should have thought about that earlier."

Then she walked away.

This time-

Arjun didn't follow immediately.

And that was the first time he understood something terrifying.

He might actually have lost her.
