Chapter 14 #2

“That was a phase. It was supposed to look like that,” Vex grumbles. “What the fuck is this pick on Vex night?”

“If he does it again, we’re documenting it for science,” Eren says, grinning.

Vex flips them both off with a smirk.

The moment Haven breaks eye contact, I make my escape to the bedroom I’ve chosen for the night. The ache in my body is getting worse. I can’t have this shit happening on stage.

I stare inside at the array of drugs in my bag that I keep hidden from everyone.

I’ve been to more than one doctor. The first one said that I have depression and that migraines are just a side effect.

A side effect of what? He said it with a cartoon smile and a handshake.

He might as well have said, ‘Suck it up, be a man, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out. ’

The latest doctor told me I have a mental illness. Schizophrenia, to be precise. He said that I’m showing early signs. I didn’t know anything about the disease other than what I’ve seen in movies, and that scared the fucking shit out of me.

Since then, I’ve been researching my ass off, but it just doesn’t fit. I don’t care what they say. It’s not what I have.

Fuck it. I open all four bottles and take out the meds. The colorful pills look so harmless in my hand. Popping them in my mouth, I swallow them dry and turn to leave, only to stop dead in my tracks.

Haven is leaning against the door jamb, staring at me, her face void of all emotion. I cross my arms and go on the defensive.

“You stalking me now?”

“No. You do know what this looks like, right?”

“Yeah, well…you can keep your opinions to yourself, you saw nothing.”

Instead of leaving, Haven does exactly what she has always done and steps in and closes the door trapping us in together.

She can’t see that I’m a dangerous animal, and she’s already too close to the bars of the cage.

My heart thuds hard in my chest. The room feels alive, and I lick my lips, wanting to lay her out on the bed right now.

“What did you just take?”

I snap out of it and snarl like a cornered dog instead.

“Fuck off.”

“Cy, your outbursts don’t bother me, and I’m not leaving until I get an answer. So…I’ll ask you again, what did you just take?”

“It’s real medication, not party drugs. The doctor gave them to me.”

Pissed off about being called out, I bend over and unzip my bag. I quickly flash her the bottles with my name on them, keeping the medication names out of view.

“See, I’m not fucking doing illegal shit, okay?”

I can tell by the look in her eyes that she’s not sure she should believe me. What’s worse is the real concern behind the stare.

“I’m done with this conversation.” I march toward her, but she blocks the door. “Get out of my way, Haven.”

“What are they for?”

Bracing my hands on the door beside her head, I growl at her.

“None of your fucking business. Now get out of my way, or I’m fucking you instead.”

Haven’s eyes flare with a matched spark of desire.

“Do I look like the same girl who cowered at your threats?”

I glower, hovering over her. The rage, fear, and desire create a deadly mix.

“I’m not one of your groupies, Cy. The random fuck and flee is not my thing.”

“You could’ve fucking fooled me. Pretty sure it was you who ran, not me.”

Haven’s eyebrows draw so tightly together that they almost touch as she scowls at me.

“Sure, if that’s how you want to see it. The point is—”

“Yeah, I know, you’re engaged to Charles,” I say, mocking the guy’s name by saying it with an English accent.

One eyebrow raises.

“Fine, you don’t want to move.”

Grabbing her wrists and taking her by surprise, I slam them over her head and bury my face in the side of her neck.

“Fuck you smell good, Butterfly.”

“Cy…knock it off,” she says, chest heaving. Each lungful of air rubs her tits against me.

“Every breath you take…I feel it. I feel it like it’s mine. Like you’re breathing for both of us.”

“Cy…stop.”

Haven’s tone may be firm, but her voice breaks as she tilts her head slightly.

“I’m in your blood, Haven. Admit it.”

“Cy…you’re acting like a jackass.”

She pushes against my hands, but I hold her still and slip a thigh between her legs. My lips brush along her jaw until they’re hovering over hers. Perfect, pouty, begging to be kissed.

Haven’s green eyes are full of fiery denial, but I plan on chipping that look away until all she sees when she closes her eyes is me.

“You’re right, I am,” I say, flicking my tongue out and tasting her. My body shudders, and the pain and fear completely vanish. “Listen to me carefully, Haven…there isn’t a man alive who knows you like I do…who can break you the way I can…and I will.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” she growls, but there is no bite behind her words.

I’ll give her credit, she has always been strong, but now…she’s made of iron-will. But any metal will melt if you apply enough heat.

“We’ll see.”

Snatching her around the waist, I haul her up and over my shoulder.

“Cy! Put me down.”

I open the door and march along the hall.

“Cy, you asshole.”

All I do is smile.

“Son of a bitch. I swear to God you make me want to cut your dick off,” she hisses.

The part of me that loves her anger is cheering inside, but it’s different now. The need to taste the pain in her tears is gone, replaced by the desire to hear her scream my name.

“Cy, put me down, or I’ll post horrible videos of you,” she snarls, which is adorable while she’s talking to my ass.

“I think I manage to make myself look like an asshole enough without your help,” I say, smirking as she smacks me.

I return the favor, and the crack of my palm connecting is loud.

“Ouch! Fucker! This is harassment,” she yells.

“Take it up with my boss.”

Back in the living room, everyone is still eating. Our little display is met by four wide-eyed stares.

“We need a photo of that and definitely need to post that shit,” Ash says, jumping up and grabbing his phone.

“Don’t you dare,” Haven orders.

Everyone laughs, and Ash takes the photo anyway. Fuck, I want that one as my screen saver.

I spin in a circle while Haven squeals, and then I set her on her feet. The room erupts in laughter as she stumbles sideways, swearing at me, and then lands on the loveseat. She manages to keep her scowl firmly in place.

“Next time, Butterfly…move.”

“Stop fucking calling me that,” Haven shouts, but she doesn’t move to chase me down.

“Let’s go,” I say instead of acknowledging her comment, and head for the door with Haven’s scent still firmly in my nose.

Fuck I want her.
