Chapter 15

We spend a couple hours doing girly stuff like face masks, manicures, and pedicures. A little pampering before our big day. After making sure an alarm is set for early the next morning, we go to bed before midnight … then spend hours scrolling on social media because we are too excited to sleep.

Our dresses are hiding in the closet of my old bedroom at my parents’ house, so we are wearing oversized t-shirts with leggings until we get there.

We do our own makeup and help each other with hair styles.

It takes us less than an hour to get ready then we are out the door and heading off the mountain.

The two of us getting ready together brings back memories of getting ready for school dances and prom. The moms’ take tons of pictures before and after we get into the dresses. They make sure we have something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. And lots of hugs.

Before we head outside, we peek out a window at the guest and our handsome men.

“Oh my god! Tray has blonde hair! He looks like he is a long-lost brother to Dalton and Gunner! I have never seen him with anything but wildly colored hair.” Sahara whispers, getting my attention. “Are we sure that is Trayven?”

“Holy toadstools! He must have stripped the blue out of his hair when they got home last night.” I say in a hushed voice. “Damn. They all look good today.”

The guys are all wearing black jeans with black boots, white short-sleeved button-up shirts, and black vests. Simple yet classy.

“Do we have to stay for the BBQ? I am ready to get my man back to the house … now!” Sahara giggles as she whispers.

“I am right there with you, girl! Trying to make up for all the time we missed out on because of their hangups.”

Then it is time to walk to our men … and we have a few surprises in store for the parents and guest. Sahara and I are walking each other down the aisle …

and instead of the traditional bridal music, we dance and sing our way down the aisle to “Kiss the Girl” from Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’, earning lots of laughter from the guest.

We have a somewhat traditional ceremony; except we opted out of the ‘obey’ part of the vows as we know that not one of the four of us could say that without laughing.

Our next surprise comes after the ‘kiss the bride’ part as the kisses go on longer than is appropriate. The bridesmaids and groomsmen have a mock battle of trying to pull apart the brides and grooms. The poor officiant was laughing so hard that he had tears rolling down his face.

Our last surprise comes when it is time to walk back down the aisle.

Instead of the traditional recessional music, “We’re off to see the Wizard” from the Wizard of Oz movie begins playing.

First the groomsmen link arms, then the bridesmaids link arms, followed by the grooms, and then the brides.

As a group, we do the shuffle dance down the aisle, laughing the whole time.

The moms’ follow our lead and shuffle dance down the aisle behind the group; the dads’ just walk the aisle, grinning but shaking their heads.

We line up behind the chair to form the receiving line to get hugs and handshakes from the guest. As the last person is through the line, the moms’ get everyone’s attention with a loud whistle and motion to follow them.

Behind the house, a table has been set up with two small wedding cakes and a large bowl of punch. “We were going to just have cake at the BBQ, but we decided to surprise the couples.” We cut the cakes, drink the punch, and pose for way too many pictures.

Just minutes before people start showing up for the BBQ, the members of the wedding party move into the house to get changed, while the other guests move tables and chairs around for the BBQ.
