Chapter Three Purity #3

I had one more client for the day. Though today has been smooth sailing.

I am ready to knock this last one out and head on out the door.

I appreciate Mr. Taylor for sticking with me the entire day and giving me all the pointers he could.

One thing he instilled in me already is to be professional but firm.

By me being a woman men tend to try to intimidate us and get over.

You have to stand on business the first time so they know they can’t play with you.

I wasn’t here for the bullshit so that’s definitely a rule I plan to abide by.

I had about ten minutes before my last client arrived.

While we waited, I briefly checked my phone just to make sure I didn’t miss anything about my son or anything from my fiancé.

Seeing that my mom sent me several pictures of him playing and in his own element made me smile.

I can’t wait to see his little cute face when I get off.

I can already imagine the way he’ll hug my legs when he sees me.

Not wanting to be rude, I placed my phone back down after responding to a few messages. I checked my email just to be sure that I hadn’t missed anything. I was trying my best to stay on top of everything.

Mr. Taylor was scrolling on his phone when Tiffany knocked on the door and told him he was needed on an urgent matter.

He was hesitant about leaving me, but I ensured him I would be fine with my last client.

I had my Glock close, although I wasn’t worried about anyone trying anything.

This place is heavily guarded, so saying that I felt safe was slight.

Though I appreciated him being here all day with me, I can breathe a little better now knowing that I’m not being monitored. I was even more comfortable now.

Mr. Taylor closed my door without realizing when he left. I paid it no mind until there was a knock on the door. Seeing the time, I realized it couldn’t have been anyone other than my last client.

“Come in”, I said.

I shuffled my folders around, getting the one I needed for my last client and placing the others in the file cabinet.

When I looked up, I was in complete and utter surprise.

Seeing the guy from the club that helped get me to safety made me feel some kind of way.

I shouldn’t have but I wasn’t expecting to ever see him again.

I’m rarely on that side of town. People like Trill and people like me don’t cross paths outside of chance encounters and bad decisions.

I guess I was wrong. Life is funny that way.

That or either Big G is playing games with me.

Either way, I’m here to remain professional.

“If it isn’t Ms. Stubborn herself. What are the odds?”, he said laughing lightly as he made himself comfortable in his seat.

I swallowed the lump in my throat as I opened his file.

“Mr. Tavian Carter”

“Trill. But you know that already. It’s nice to see you again Purity. I hope you’ve been staying out killers’ way and steering clear of shoot outs and shit”, he said trying to be funny.

“Ms. Banks”

I corrected him immediately. I sat there quietly as I read over his file. Reading his charges, I observed that he has an aggravated assault charge, illegal firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm without legal authorization. I abruptly got to the reason he was here today.

“I see here that you missed one of your anger management courses”

“I had some shit to do that day. I showed up but they turned me away. I really don’t see the need for the shit anyway. I don’t have any anger issues”

“This charge I’m looking at says otherwise”

He said nothing but smirked cockily. He is so full of himself. If I could roll my eyes right now I would. The day has been going smooth as hell and here his ass come with all this slick talking.

“I’d hate to think that you’re using that paper and letting it decipher who I am as a person. None of that shit defines me. One day you’ll see that”

“I’m not here to judge Mr. Carter. I’m only here to make sure that you stay on the straight and narrow.

I want the best for your future and whatever I can do to ensure that is within arm’s reach for you, I will.

Now, if you could give me an updated address to start with, we can get the ball rolling”

He provided me his address, and it matched what we had on file for him.

“Feel free to lock that shit in on your GPS as a favorite”, he said smiling, revealing those pearly whites that he was blessed with.

“Mr. Carter!”

“Alright, alright, I’m going to chill”

He was getting a kick out of me having to remain in professional mode. I’m sure he remembers very vividly from the club that I will take it there with his ass. Now just isn’t the time.

“It says here that you’re employed by Carter’s Auto Customs. Are you still with that company?”

“I’m the owner, so in short, yes”

He broke my ass up really fast just now.

I didn’t even pay it any attention that the business incorporated his last name.

It wasn’t that I was shocked that he owned a business, it just caught me a little off guard.

By the look on his face, he knew it. His face said everything his sarcastic ass mouth wanted to say.

I was just glad that he kept it inside this time.

“I’ll be checking in to make sure you don’t miss any more days of anger management.

You continue to stick with it, you’ll graduate from the program, and all of this would be less strenuous for you Mr. Carter.

Just continue doing good with your business and the rest will follow.

If you could go across the hall and leave me a urine sample for your drug test, you’ll be good to go shortly”

“It’s cool if you call me Trill really. Not like we don’t know one another outside of this probation shit. Don’t have to keep this formal shit going”

“We don’t, our interaction was brief. I thanked you for what you did, and I never expected us to cross paths again. Especially not so soon”, I said in a hushed tone.

I didn’t want to chance anyone hearing me say that I’m familiar with him. I’m more than sure that goes against the company’s policy. The thing is, I really don’t know him. We ran into each other at the club, he helped me get to safety and that was that.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing... damn. I feel some kind of way”

“I don’t mean it in a bad way at all. Today is my first day on the job so to me this is all one big coincidence. No biggie really because I’m here to do a job”

“I’m just fucking with you. I’m not going to fuck it up for you. I just enjoy watching you squirm, knowing deep down inside you’re ready to let me have it. Trust me, I remember that fly ass mouth you have”

I couldn’t do shit but smile because as long as he knows, I ain’t with that bullshit. That’s how I know he was getting a kicker out of this. It’s all good though because when I get settled in good enough, I will curse his ass out in a heartbeat. Right now, I’m choosing to let him live.

He went in the bathroom to leave his sample.

When he did, I felt relieved. This man was saying any damn thing to get under my skin.

I was more than glad that he was my last client for the day.

I began to gather my things silently. Even though today was a good one, I ready to leave for the day and get some fresh air.

I stayed inside of the building all day not wanting to leave and miss anything.

Once I get a bit more acclimated, I will feel better about going out for lunch and other small breaks.

The light knock on the door disrupted my thought process. I looked up to Trill standing in the doorway.

“I handled my business and left it in there for you”

“Thank you”, I said smiling politely. “That’s all I need for the day. Should anything go wrong you’ll be hearing from me”

“Yes ma’am Ms. Banks. If you ever need a bodyguard or killer to keep you safe, you know where to find me”

He left me with those words as he smiled and walked away. All I could think to myself is that this is one crazy ass nigga.
