Chapter 6 The Shocking Call

When I answered, it was not his voice on the other end.

After a low, soft laugh came the sounds of sticky lips and tongues intertwining.

Amid the faint sounds of clothes rubbing and falling, Qiao Yining panted softly.

"Shijin, be gentle..."

My blood seemed to freeze instantly, then ignited with overwhelming anger the next second.

"Lu Shijin!"

I could no longer control myself and screamed angrily.

"Don't forget, we haven't gotten the divorce certificate yet. You're still a married man!"

The sounds on the other end stopped abruptly.

After some panicked noises, Lu Shijin's hoarse voice came. "Ruotang?"

I let out a cold laugh, but tears blurred my vision unwillingly.

"What, is hearing your wife's voice particularly exciting?"

"Am I also part of your reconciliation play?"

Lu Shijin's tone was urgent. "It's not what you think. Listen to me explain..."

"You still remember that bet, right?"

I took a deep breath and reined in my emotions.

"I'll move out tomorrow. No matter how impatient you are, please wait two weeks and get the divorce certificate first, okay?"

With that, I hung up the phone and threw it aside.

These days, I had lived in constant fear.

Now that I no longer held any pointless expectations, I felt relieved instead.

I thought Lu Shijin definitely would not come back tonight.

In a daze, I felt the mattress sink, and a hot breath came from behind.

The man reeked of strong alcohol, and a scent of gardenia that did not belong to me.

Lu Shijin pressed his chin against my neck, almost aggrieved.

"Ruotang, I drank too much. Just now... I mistook her for you."

He tightened his arms and promised urgently.

"This kind of thing won't happen again. Don't keep talking about divorce. I don't like hearing it..."

I did not move.

Nor did I respond.

"Wen Ruotang!"

Lu Shijin's breathing grew heavier, his voice tinged with anger.

"It was an accident. I didn't even go all the way with her. Do you have to make such a fuss?"

Seeing that I remained unmoved, he got out of bed and slammed the door shut with a bang.

I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling in a daze.

The marriage alliance was indeed not what I wanted.

But after five years of living together day and night, the feelings had grown like tender buds quietly sprouting in spring, completely beyond my control.

In fact, in the past year, I had almost thought that Lu Shijin had fallen in love with me.

He would lose control and want me after drinking, calling "wife" over and over with hot breath.

At banquets, he coldly rejected all advances, but when he saw me, he would drop his usual aloofness and complain softly.

"Wife, why did you only come now?"

On my 28th birthday, he bought a yacht to celebrate for me.

When the night sky was lit up by fireworks, he hugged my waist from behind, his voice gentle and soft.

"Wife, let's have a child."

At that moment, I convinced myself that time could fade everything.

The one to walk into the future with him was me.

But it was not until Qiao Yining returned that I understood.

Some pasts.

Could never be gotten over.

The brief happiness I had stolen was short-lived.

It seemed beautiful, but after dawn, only bubbles remained.

At this moment, the sky was turning pale with dawn.

So, Lu Shijin.

We should end it here too.
