Chapter 7 A Birthday Demand

While packing my luggage, I stuffed all the valuable jewelry and high-end clothes into the suitcase.

The Lu Family did not lack this bit of money. Rather than letting it benefit Qiao Yining, I might as well take it first.

At noon, I dragged the suitcase downstairs, and a few balloons floated by my feet.

Only then did I suddenly remember that today was Lu Mingyu's sixth birthday.

The doorbell rang, and Teacher Chen opened the door.

Qiao Yining walked in calmly.

Lu Mingyu immediately rushed over, his eyes bright as stars, looking up with a small face and cheering.

"Mom, this is the first birthday you're spending with me!"

Qiao Yining gently stroked his hair, her voice soft.

"From now on, Mom will be with you for every birthday."

Lu Mingyu nodded heavily and turned to Lu Shijin who had just come out of the study.

"Dad, you said I could have anything I want for my birthday, right?"

Lu Shijin nodded casually. "Yes."

His gaze swept over the suitcase at my feet, and his brows furrowed slightly.

"Then I want her to leave!"

Lu Mingyu suddenly pointed at me, his tone full of disgust.

"I don't want to see this bad woman!"

I looked at Lu Mingyu's puffed-up little face. The words about the limited edition Spider-Man Lego he wanted reached my lips but I swallowed them back.

I said calmly, "Even if you didn't say it, I was going to leave anyway."

Hearing this, the anger on his face disappeared, and a trace of indescribable confusion and panic flashed in his eyes.

Lu Shijin swept a warning glance over and said sternly.

"Wen Ruotang is also your mom. You're getting more and more unruly."

Lu Mingyu came back to his senses, shrank into Qiao Yining's arms, and muttered grumpily.

"I only have one mom."

"If you talk back again, you won't have this birthday."

Upon hearing this, the smile on Qiao Yining's face froze. Then she squatted down and pretended to persuade.

"Baby, be good. Aunt Wen has taken care of you for so many years. How can we drive her away?"

I looked at her hypocritical appearance and let out a cold laugh.

"It's fine. If I don't make room, how can you three have a family reunion?"

Her eyes suddenly reddened, tears swirling in her eye sockets.

"Since Miss Wen doesn't welcome me, then I'll leave."

"Shijin, don't argue because of me and ruin the child's fun."

Lu Shijin grabbed my wrist and questioned in a low voice.

"How long are you going to make a scene? Today is Mingyu's birthday!"

I looked at him quietly.

"I'm serious. See you at the Civil Affairs Office in two weeks."

Seeing my determined expression, Lu Shijin's tone finally softened a bit.

"I'll give you time to calm down, but at least... stay and eat the cake with the child before leaving."

With the stalemate, I slowly nodded.

Just treat it as properly drawing a conclusion to these five years of marriage.
