Camden
The parade, shockingly, wasn’t too bad for the short period of time it went on. We were able to receive several Jello shots, so we need to make something to eat so we don’t get too fucked up.
“Do you want to keep it simple and make some sandwiches?” I ask her.
We have some time to kill, so we could do something more complex, but I know we both want to see a little more of the campground.
“Yeah, that’s fine. I’ll take a salami and Swiss cheese sandwich with pickles on it.”
I’ve never understood how she eats her sandwich so plain with nothing on it. It does make things easier when it comes to buying the ingredients, though, because we don’t need a whole lot. I throw together a simple sandwich and hand it over to her.
“Here you go, I hope you enjoy,” I say, passing her the sandwich.
“I always enjoy the food you make for me, so I’m sure this won’t be any different. Once we’re done eating, can we go for another walk?”
“Of course, maybe we can walk down one of those trails on the map.”
One of my favorite parts of being out in nature is the ability to explore new areas.
Knowing that there are different hiking trails has me excited to see what could be at the end of them.
With us being in the mountains, I’m sure there will be a beautiful sight once we get through the trails.
Part of me is nervous after what I saw earlier online, so maybe we need to get back early from the trails.
“I’m down for that. I’m sure we’ll find a good trail. I remember seeing there’s a waterfall around here too, so that could be fun to go to,” I say.
“I would love to go to the waterfall. We could always go in for a swim because we have plenty of time before it hits eight for the bonfire.”
“Let’s do it.”
We finish eating our sandwiches, throw on our bathing suits, and set foot on one of the trails on the opposite side of the campground.
I see the trail is marked, which makes me feel a lot more comfortable because we’ll easily be able to find our way back.
I don’t know how people hike the woods without the markings because I sure as hell would be lost.
As we start to get deeper into the woods, that eerie feeling comes back like someone is here waiting to get us. I don’t know why I’m super paranoid. Maybe I’m just tripping, and there’s really nobody there. I begin to pick up my pace and walk a little faster, Jessica following my lead.
“I think I see the waterfall up ahead,” she says, pointing through the tree line.
She begins to run, leaving me behind. I know I can’t let her out of my sight, so I kick it into gear and catch up to her.
The sight in front of us is absolutely beautiful.
The water looks so blue that I want to jump into it immediately.
I’ve seen videos of people jumping from the top of the waterfall to the bottom and hurting themselves, so I look for the nearest step.
“Let’s head down the steps and head that direction, it’s probably safer.”
She shrugs like she doesn’t really care about the way we go in.
“I just want to feel the water on my skin, so hurry your ass up and let's go,” she laughs as she begins to run over to the steps.
When we get to the pool of water at the bottom, I’m honestly shocked that there aren't a ton of people down here.
The weather outside is pretty warm, but I'm thinking the parade had people wanting to just relax at their campgrounds.
Once we get undressed, we hop into the water, and it feels amazing on my skin.
“It feels so good in here, I could stay here all day,” I say.
“You’re going to become all shriveled up if you stay in here.”
We both start laughing because whose mindset goes straight to that.
I know that’s a thing, but I didn’t expect her to say it right here.
That makes me think about being all old and shriveled up in the future.
I don’t want to be there. I splash the water in her direction, causing us to get into a little water fight.
I love these moments of just being able to spend time with her and do something fun.
Damn, I’ve missed this.
About an hour goes past, and it’s probably time to head back to the campsite.
“You ready to head back?” I ask.
“Only if you promise we can come back here another time.”
“Of course, babe, we have plenty of time here. Let’s head back and get showered, make a fire, and hang out for a little.”
She nods her head in agreement, and we start our walk back.
