Chapter 14 – Kai

I grab the scythe next to my trailer door and walk back out into the park. I think there’s at least an hour left of my shift and then I can take Lana back home where she belongs. With me.

I quickly make my rounds through the park, scaring everyone that I can before we close. Just like last week when we first opened we always gather by the gates and tell everyone goodnight and to come back.

So many people told me, I did a good job and that they will be back for more screams tomorrow night. They also mentioned that, Lana was a phenomenal actress. I grin. Good. Now this little group needs to hurry along so I can get back to my girl.

Ten more minutes go by and they finally leave. The actors do a group huddle like before the start of our shift and then we go back to our trailers. I take my hood off my head and light a cigarette. Liam catches up to me.

“Where did Lana go?” He asks. “She went home. Needed some rest after her phenomenal performance tonight.” I say as I take a puff. I mean it’s not completely a lie. She will be going home. I’m her home.

“Makes sense. But you really need to talk to our boss about her being here. She’s not an official cast member, Kai.” Liam says. I roll my eyes. She might as well be. She’s an actress, after all. “Yeah. I’ll call Alyssa tomorrow if I don’t see her before we go home.” I say.

Liam is such a goody two shoes. Who raised him? “Well, goodnight, man.” He says. “Goodnight.” I say and then raise my cigarette back to my lips as I unlock my trailer quietly. I have to do this discreetly. Liam usually leaves before me, so I shouldn’t have to wait too long.

I take a big long puff then put my cigarette out. I grab my scythe and put it in the trailer next to the door. I close the door as quietly as I can. When I turn around, I see Lana is fast asleep in the chair.

God, she looks like an angel. Peacefully sleeping. It shouldn’t be too hard to get her untied and into my van if she’s not a light sleeper. I undress while she’s sleeping.

I take my boots off, then the tunic and my brown pants. I grab my bag and pull out sweatpants and a shirt. I’ll take my makeup off at the house. I don’t feel like wasting my time here when I can get Lana home sooner.

I pull on my shirt and sweatpants, throw everything else I may need into my bag before I begin untying Lana. I do it with quick precision. Believe it or not I used to be a Boy Scout.

Once she’s untied, I swiftly grab my bag and hoist her into my arms. She shifts and I think she’s going to wake up, but she snuggles into my chest and then sighs in contentment and falls back to sleep.

You’re right where you belong. In my arms, baby. I grab my keys and head out with Lana cuddled up against me. I swiftly lock the door to my trailer and then I head out to the parking lot.

I open up my van door and lay her inside. Then I throw my backpack behind my seat. I secure the seatbelt around Lana as best as I can without disturbing her. I don’t want to wake her up.

I kiss her head and then turn the key in the ignition. Now, we can head home. She’ll finally be back in my arms. Just where she needs to be.

I only live like fifteen to twenty minutes away from Midnight Mayhem. And this late at night? It’s peaceful. Not too many cars around.

I’m honestly surprised Lana is still asleep but I won’t complain. At least she can’t argue with me. She never would’ve agreed to coming back home with me. I get it. I wouldn’t forgive me either but that was five years ago.

I pull into my driveway. I live in a simplistic one story house just outside of the city. It’s a whitish gray house with a red door. Not much else to say about it.

I park the van and shut it off. I grab my bag and then shut my door. I go unlock the front door and then open Lana’s door and lift her into my arms again.

She doesn’t stir yet again. I carry her into the house. I don’t bother turning the lights on, I know the layout. I get her to my bedroom and lay her on my bed. I turn on the lamp next to it.

I lay my bag down by the bed. I open it and grab the towel I use to clean off my makeup. I head into the bathroom. I flip the light on and realize I left my contacts in. Shit. Oh well. At least I keep a spare contact lenses holder at my house.

I take the dark scleras out and put them in my spare holder and put them aside. I then take the cleanser and dose my towel in it and start taking the makeup off.

I get it all off and then rinse my face with warm water. I stare at my reflection, my icy blue eyes staring back at me. I then take my clothes off, turning the light off and heading back into the room.

Lana is still asleep. She must’ve had a long day. I’m sure my chasing didn’t help that. I take her clothes off without waking her and then I put her in my bed.

I put her clothes away next to mine before I turn the lamp off and lay next to her. I brush her hair out of her face. She’s still as beautiful as the day I met her.

I was going to wake up her up and make her take a shower but she needs her rest. Especially after being back with me. She needs her energy.

I kiss her forehead and then close my eyes. We should both get a full night of sleep. I have things planned for my baby and she better be prepared.
