Chapter 40
Unforgotten Love
Six months later...
The Rathore mansion had never looked more beautiful.
Strings of warm fairy lights illuminated the gardens.
Fresh flowers decorated every corner.
Soft music floated through the evening air as guests arrived one after another.
It wasn't a lavish celebration meant to impress the world.
It was a wedding meant to celebrate a family that had found its way back to each other.
---
Inside the bridal room, Anaya stood in front of the mirror.
She wore a traditional ivory and red bridal lehenga.
Simple.
Elegant.
Beautiful.
Her hands trembled slightly as she adjusted her dupatta.
A gentle knock sounded on the door.
"Come in."
The door opened slowly.
Kabir peeked inside.
He was dressed in a tiny cream sherwani with a matching stole.
His hair had been neatly styled for the occasion.
"Mumma..."
He walked over carefully.
"You look pretty."
Anaya knelt down and hugged him.
"So do you."
Kabir looked at her for a moment.
Then asked quietly,
"Are you happy?"
Anaya smiled through the tears gathering in her eyes.
"I've never been happier."
Kabir hugged her again.
"Me too."
---
Outside, Aarav waited near the mandap.
For the first time in years...
He was nervous.
His grandmother stood beside him and smiled knowingly.
"You've negotiated with ministers and business tycoons."
She chuckled.
"But today you're nervous?"
Aarav laughed softly.
"This feels more important."
"It is."
She squeezed his arm.
"You've already won the hardest battle."
He looked at her.
"What battle?"
She smiled.
"Learning how to love without letting fear make your decisions."
Those words stayed with him.
---
The music changed.
Everyone turned toward the entrance.
Anaya walked slowly toward the mandap.
Kabir held one of her hands.
Aarav's grandmother held the other.
Halfway there, Kabir looked up at Anaya.
"You know..."
"What?"
"I think Dad is going to cry."
Anaya laughed softly.
She looked toward Aarav.
Sure enough...
His eyes were already shining.
When she finally reached him, they stood in silence for a few seconds.
Neither spoke.
Neither needed to.
Sometimes, after everything they had been through...
Words were too small.
---
The wedding ceremony began.
As the sacred fire burned before them, they exchanged their vows.
Not written.
Not rehearsed.
Simply spoken from the heart.
Aarav looked at Anaya.
"I can't promise that life will always be easy."
She smiled.
"I know."
"But I promise you'll never have to face it alone again."
A tear slipped down her cheek.
She looked into his eyes.
"And I promise that no matter how difficult life becomes..."
She gently squeezed his hand.
"...I'll choose trust before fear."
They completed the seven pheras together.
Not as two people trying to erase the past.
But as two people who had learned from it.
---
After the ceremony, the families gathered for photographs.
Kabir insisted on standing exactly between his parents.
"This is my spot."
Nobody argued.
The photographer smiled.
"Everyone look here."
Just before the camera flashed, Kabir whispered,
"We're finally one family."
Click.
The photograph captured more than three smiling faces.
It captured years of pain.
Years of waiting.
Years of forgiveness.
And a future filled with hope.
---
Later that night, after most of the guests had left, Aarav and Anaya stood on the mansion balcony.
The celebrations continued softly below.
Fireflies danced across the gardens.
A cool breeze carried the scent of jasmine.
Aarav slipped his hand into hers.
"Wife."
Anaya laughed.
"Husband."
They both smiled.
"It still feels unreal," she admitted.
Aarav nodded.
"Sometimes I think about everything we lost."
She looked at him.
"So do I."
He turned toward her.
"But then I remember something."
"What?"
"If we hadn't fought so hard to find each other again..."
He smiled.
"...we might never have learned how precious ordinary moments really are."
She rested her head on his shoulder.
For a while, they simply stood there.
Watching the stars.
Watching their family laugh in the garden below.
Watching the life they had rebuilt together.
---
A few minutes later, tiny footsteps echoed behind them.
Kabir appeared, rubbing his sleepy eyes.
"I can't sleep."
Aarav bent down.
"Come here."
Kabir climbed into his father's arms.
Then rested his head on Anaya's shoulder.
The three of them stood together beneath the night sky.
A complete family.
Exactly where they belonged.
Anaya looked at the two people she loved most.
Then whispered,
"I think we've finally found our happy ending."
Aarav smiled.
"No."
She looked at him.
"This isn't the ending."
He kissed her forehead gently.
"It's the beginning of the rest of our lives."
As laughter echoed through the mansion and the stars shone brightly above them, Anaya realized something.
Some love stories fade with time.
Some are forgotten.
But theirs had survived distance...
Fear...
Heartbreak...
And years of silence.
Because true love, no matter how lost it seems...
Is never forgotten.
The End
