Government Guy

Everyone starts shouting. But I’m barely breathing.

Slowly, I set my pen down.

What is wrong with these people? Who mouths off to the fucking Vadas Brothers?

Someone pulls open the door, revealing the hallway. No black wormhole thing.

As people argue around me, I reach for the remote in the center of the table, beside Johnson’s rotting head, and turn the TV on.

“—coming in. But we’ve received video confirmation from Spain, Brazil, England, India, China, Nigeria, Canada, Indonesia, Norway.” The room is silent as we watch her touch her earpiece. “And the US.”

“What the hells do they mean video…” The man next to me finally shuts himself up as the view of the reporter switches to a video of Vameer and Volik in the hall outside this room, opening the door.

It’s the hallway surveillance camera. And it doesn’t show any of our faces, but you can see that the room isn’t empty.

At the bottom of the video it says Virginia, United States.

The video switches to four vampires walking into a building. New Delhi, India.

Six vampires. Jakarta, Indonesia.

And it keeps going.

More videos. More countries added to the list.

Then a video of lions.

A herd of giant lions walking through a city. More in another.

Bears. Wolves.

A swarm of eagles spirals up the Eiffel Tower.

More and more proof that Vameer was telling the truth.

That Volik was telling the truth.

The vampires. The shifters.

They are organized.

More cities. More videos.

They are serious. And they’re showing us.

My phone rings.

Then, every phone rings.
