Vameer

The portal takes us back to the yard in front of Volik’s place.

Our mates are waiting for us, but before Rune reaches me, Volik punches me in the arm. Hard.

“What’s that for?” Mon Coeur rushes the last few feet to me.

I hook an arm around her back and pull her up against me, her legs tightening around my waist.

“I like you coming to my rescue.” I grin at my girl.

She tries not to smile. “Is Volik picking on you, or did you deserve that?”

I purse my lips.

“He shot me,” Volik answers. “With a gun.”

Rune’s mouth drops open. “Vameer!”

I roll my eyes. “It was in the arm.”

“Still hurt,” Volik gripes.

I don’t bother arguing, because he’s right. It did hurt.

He was also right about Johnson’s head.

That was extra disgusting.
