Chapter Eight
Bane didn’t even twitch, nor did he step back from the spit-spot on the floor. Instead, he asked, “So Spencer, how many men are on your payroll?”
Spencer growled his answer, “Enough to take you down, that’s for sure.”
“I might have believed you at one point, but I have to say your Black Wolves are not really any kind of threat. They must have paid top dollar to puff themselves up to the underground cause they did not make the cut when they came after us. They might fool everyone else but they don’t scare me.
That first explosion killed twenty-two of them that stepped on a land mine.
I even informed them it was there and told them not to move, but did they listen?
Hell no, one of them moved and the rest went up in smoke.
Then when Shay was blown out of the sky, his brother came to find him and they stupidly took him hostage thinking he was Shay.
It was almost too easy to get him free. And just guess what happened to the hotel they were in?
” He did not wait for an answer as he added with a fake laugh, “It went up in smoke too! Then that explosion a few minutes ago? The Wolves followed a tracker and got into my sweet cabin. They all just stormed into it. They didn’t even knock.
They just stormed inside.” Bane shook his head again and said, “I’m gonna miss that cabin. ”
Spencer stood there stunned. “You killed them? All of them?”
Bane cocked his head at him. “They broke into a place I sometimes call home. They never should have been here in the first God damn place. I mean talk about rude? Well now, they won’t ever do that again as I taught them a permanent lesson in manners.
So yeah, I killed them.” Then he shrugged.
“But they died because they were working for you. So needless to say, you my boy, are running out of men to come to your rescue. Then Mommy Miranda is somewhere in the wind. You know she set all three of you up, right? She groomed you from birth to follow in her quest for money and power. But when the three of you let her down, she’s getting her money and pulling her skirt up to run away. ”
“I thought about what you said earlier. Her getting this Lisbon woman to kill me. That has to be a fucking lie.” Spencer accused him. “She’ll come for me.”
Shay shook his head. “Hey, she’s in the wind, nimrod.
She won’t be able to leave the country by boat, train or plane.
In fact, she might be worse than her kids.
She trained all three of you very well and while we’ve already frozen her bank account, we also know she has an obscene amount of cash, but we’re looking for her and soon she’ll be right beside you all in a cell.
And she’ll be the first one to denounce all three of you.
She’ll cry loud and long that you are not her children. ”
“And she’ll cry real pretty in court while she looks into the eyes of the judge and lies under oath,” Bane assured him. “She hung her own flesh and blood out to dry, while trying to get her own freedom.”
“Or she might come here to get me free,” Spencer snapped.
“And why do I doubt that very much?” Bane asked.
“She wouldn’t dare get herself caught.” He moved closer and looked Spencer right in the eye.
“I know women like your mother. They are cold hearted. Females who just don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves.
Mommy won’t dare come here. She doesn’t have the guts to face me and you know it, prissy boy.
” Bane snapped his hand out and grabbed Spencer by the throat.
It happened so fast that everyone in the room barely registered it. His fingers tightened on his neck.
Spencer fought him but he couldn’t do much. His face turned red and his lips were going blue. His eyes were bugging out as he struggled to breathe.
Suddenly, Bane loosened his grasp and dropped him.
Spencer sagged to the floor as he gasped and coughed attempting to draw air into his lungs.
“That’s for the disrespect. You almost ruined my favorite boots.” Bane stepped back and mocked him, “Mommy cares about Mommy and you know it. I mean you are just like her, right?”
“You’re wrong, asshole,” Spencer called out hoarsely.
“We’ll see motherfucker, we’ll see.” Bane turned and walked to the exit. He waited for Shay and Drew then he closed the door.
The room went silent as the lock engaged. Spencer sagged against the wall and fell to his knees.
Moving swiftly, Bane went downstairs.
Shay and Drew hurried to follow him.
James met them in the hall where the Steel Room was.
Bane stared at him.
James shrugged. “I was curious how they made it through the day after um... you know.”
Bane cocked his head at him. “After what?”
James scoffed as if Bane did not know. “The shrinking room. The steel walls.”
“Shrinking...What are you talking about?” Drew asked.
Shay shook his head. “You don’t want to know.”
James pulled out his phone. “At the time we couldn’t have Shay seen by these men before the arrest and trial you know? So I made a recording of it.” He scrolled his phone and then paused. Tapping the screen, he handed the cell to Drew.
In the video...
Jasper Owens and Charlie Midland were cowering in the far corner of the room.
Both men were shaking and they both had pissed themselves.
Charlie was bleeding while sitting there on the floor.
When the single light came back on, Jasper turned his head and glared at the group standing there watching them. “You lousy motherfucker,” Jasper called out to Bane. His voice sounded scratchy and hoarse. “You left us here inside a shrinking room. That damn wall almost made us into bloody pulp.”
“Oh puhlease, spare us the theatrics,” Bane quipped. “Boo-hoo, I scared you silly.”
“You did more than just scare us—asshole,” Jasper shouted as his voice broke. “Charlie tried to stop the wall by bracing his foot against it and it snapped his bone in half. He broke his fucking leg!”
Bane turned his head and studied Charlie Midland then he shook his head. “Not my fault. You should have known better, Charlie.”
“Yeah, it is your fault,” Charlie argued. “You aren’t exactly known for your compassion buddy. What other little secrets have you got here in this Godforsaken house of horrors?”
Bane chuckled. “Damn Charlie, you might be surprised at what’s in this house.
I’ve lived here most of my life and yet I still find some great places.
My grandfather, who was the best hitman ever known, was also a great designer and carpenter.
He had some interesting secrets, yes he sure did.
” Then he stopped and sniffed the air. He made a face and waved his hand.
“Did you piss your own pants, gentlemen? I must say that is disgusting.”
Charlie growled, “You would too asshole if you thought you were going to be flattened into a wall. Steel doesn’t exactly bend with pressure.”
Bane shook his head and tisked. “Gentlemen, I don’t want you dead, not yet anyway. I want the day to come when I see you entering prison for the rest of your natural lives. Nothing would make me happier than just that.”
