Chapter Nine
After the video ended...
Bane shook his head and he actually chuckled. “Fuck, that was funny.” With a tapping on another wall pad, he opened the room he’d left Jasper and Charlie in.
The heavy door screeched open and two men looked up.
Jasper Owens seethed. “So you finally remembered we were here?”
Bane was still smiling. “Sorry for the delay but we’ve been a little busy.”
“Doing what?” Charlie snarled. “Pulling your thumbs out of your asses?”
James snickered. “Too funny, Uncle Idiot.”
Charlie glared at him.
Bane came into the room fully and walked over to the two men who had been trapped for a day and half. Charlie’s broken leg was swelling and his break didn’t look so good. Bane studied his injury and shrugged. “You ain’t dead yet so you still have a chance to save your leg if you tell us the truth.”
Jasper looked at the two other men that followed Bane inside and he snorted, “Who are these men, Jessin? They’re following you around like lost puppies. Are you training your replacements now? Are they as cold and unfeeling as you are?”
Bane just shook his head. “That is exactly correct. They are killers in training.” He shook his head. He obviously believed it would be best if these two did not know about Shay. “You are too amusing, Jasper.”
Jasper frowned and glared at the other two men. “What the hell are you doing with a man like him?” He jerked a thumb at Bane.
Shay crossed his arms over his chest and said, “When your brother brought my Helo down, Bane and friends of his, found me before your brother’s mercenaries could. That just pissed your brother off and he set his own men after us.”
Jasper Owens frowned at him. “Number one, I don’t have a brother and number two, I could care less about you.”
Bane shook his head and scoffed. “Now Jasper, you know damn well you have a brother and a sister. Who, by the way, is sitting in a jail cell even as we speak. Little Lisbon was lying in wait to kill your brother Spencer in fact. Spencer is also sitting in a cell as you will be soon enough.” He cocked his head at him.
“Did you know your brother sent the Blood Wolves after us? He thought his dirty money could wipe us out but here we are, still alive while they are dead. Poor slobs won’t get their money now because the feds took it all away.
The only one we don’t have yet is your mother but not to worry, we’ll get her too then you all can have a family reunion behind bars. ”
Jasper snorted and shook his head. “I haven’t seen mom since the day she walked out on my dad. If she had other kids I wouldn’t know about them either.”
“Don’t start lying to me now Jasper,” Bane warned him. “If you didn’t know about Spencer, why would he put a bomb under the hood of my car while it was in his driveway?”
Jasper shrugged. “Maybe he just doesn’t like you, did you ever think about that? I imagine many people hate your guts like I do.”
Bane studied him for a moment then nodded, “Yeah but he knew who I am, what I used to be. He also claims he didn’t know it was my vehicle he placed the bomb under. In fact, he seemed very surprised I was still alive when I came to get him.”
“How the fucking hell did you get so close to him?” Jasper asked.
“It wasn’t all that hard really. You see as a boy, my grandfather told me to know my own land and everything around me.
I know most of the secrets this area has.
I walked right up behind him before he even knew I was there.
I was at your house at the time so that alone should clue you in on the fact that maybe he was aiming at you. ” He crossed his arms over his chest.
Jasper shook his head. “Not a chance.”
“Yes, possibly. Who would care about your money if not Spencer? Maybe your Mommy? Yeah, see I believe she put you all against each other. Then after you three were dead, she could walk away with no one to testify against her.”
Shay leaned closer and told him, “But she shouldn't worry, we found enough information to send you, your brother, your sister and dear ole mom to prison for the rest of your lives.”
“For what? Living?” Jasper scoffed.
“For treason,” Shay told him unemotionally. “We found invoices for shipping arms and electronics to forbidden places that would turn around and use those weapons against our own troops.”
“Oh, cry me a river man, money is money,” Jasper grumbled.
“And treason is treason,” Drew spoke up.
Bane’s phone buzzed as he got a text from Pappy. He read the message then looked up at Shay and Drew. “We have to go. We have a situation at the gate.”
Jasper grinned at this news. “What’s going on? Trouble coming?”
Bane turned and headed to the door.
James moved back and stepped into the hall.
Charlie called out, “What about medical help? My leg is killing me here.”
Bane turned around slowly and tisked. “Damn Charlie, even you should have known not to try and stop a steel door closing in on you by sticking your leg out. And you are supposed to be a smart man?” He shook his head and stepped out of the room.
“You need to let us out of here!” Jasper screamed. “When we get to the feds and I get lawyered up, I am gonna walk. I am gonna tell them about you. Holding us against our will. Attempting to kill us. What you did to this man.” He pointed at Charlie.
Bane slammed the metal door closed and the light went out leaving them in the dark.
“Would that work?” James asked Shay. “Him claiming Bane held him prisoner?”
“I don’t think so. Even if they believed him it makes no difference as long as Bane wasn’t a cop. That is another reason I am not going near the case.”
They all went down the hall, then downstairs to the security room.
“There’s a car coming up the drive,” Pappy informed them.
Bane’s cell dinged and he paused to look at it. “Well, this is going to be extremely funny.”
“What?” James asked. Then his phone buzzed. Looking down at it, he paused then his head shot up as he stared at Bane.
He shrugged at James. “Not sure why they’re here. We will ask them as soon as I tell them how to get in.”
“Ok, the vehicle just pulled up,” Pappy informed them.
Bane moved up to the monitors.
Shay and Drew also moved up to see the screen.
The car parked at the huge steel barrier as the doors popped open.
Two men got out. Two very familiar men.
“Wait,” Drew said as he peered at the men standing by the car. Then he looked up at Bane and James. “You both have twin brothers too?”
Bane nodded. “Identical in looks and not in any other way.”
“But why are they here?” James muttered. “The text I got just said we are coming.”
Suddenly, gunfire broke out.
“Oh fuck,” Sam said from the other monitor he sat at. “I see men coming in from the trees across the road. They are armed and taking pot shots at your brothers.”
Cane and Tucker were ducked down behind the car hood as Cane was shooting back at the snipers.
“Fuck, they are shooting at our bros, Bane!” James exclaimed. He looked around and didn’t see Bane. “Where did he go?”
“How in the hell?” Drew asked as he stared at the driveway screen.
They all watched as Bane just came out of nowhere holding an Ak 47 in his hands. He mowed down at least ten men. Then a hail of bullets came his way. They hit him in the chest and shoulders.
“Fuuuuck!” James shouted in panic as he sprinted out of the security room.
