Chapter 14 Adore

For the time in months, I was having fun with my nigga.

KenTheMan was popping her shit through the speakers of the club, and I was standing on the couch popping mine too.

Money was scattered all over the floor for the strippers.

The bottles were coming in our section like we were drinking water.

Whodie had already stopped me from drinking.

I was past my limit, but we were having a good time.

Between the weed and the liquor, I was out of my body.

“You better sit down before you fall.” Whodie laughed, grabbing my thigh.

“I’m good,” I said, smiling, rolling my hips to the beat anyway.

He shook his head, smiling at me like I was crazy.

That look let me know I was about to get put through the mattress when we got home.

He reached up to hand me the blunt. I inhaled and let the weed fill my lungs.

Shit was back good. We were in this bitch like nobody close to us had just died, and that we weren’t just at war.

The DJ was shouting Tone out all night. He flipped the song, so I had to give my nigga a show. That shit did not last long.

“How this hoe get in my club?” I asked as she was approaching.

“You got some nerve showing up here,” she said over the music. Whodie had already stood up, pushing her away from me.

“Bitch, you got some nerve to even be walking, hoe.”

“Aye, get this hoe outta my shit,” Whodie told the security.

I lunged right over Whodie’s head. Grabbing her by her hair, I pulled her ass down to the ground and got on top of her.

“Bitch, you forgot who the fuck I was,” I said, hitting her in her face.

I got one, two, three hits to her face before Whodie snatched me off that hoe. Security came through trying to clear the crowd. Whodie was holding me, and that was her opportunity to get a lick in. Whodie let me go, and I went round two on her face.

“Stop!” She yelled, trying to cover her face.

“Stop?” I laughed. “You should’ve stayed your ass out of here.”

“Aight,” Whodie grabbed me, wrapping his arms around me.

“Let me go,” I said, trying to get loose.

“You done enough. Chill the fuck out.”

The hoe was laying on the floor bleeding. Security came and grabbed her off the floor. I fixed my hair and checked my hands.

“Next time, hoe you ain’t gonna get up.”

“Why you always doin’ the most? You out here with yo’ ass out, showin’ pussy lips and shit.”

“That hoe walked in our section and talked shit. She tried me first,” I said, out of breath.

Did he just say I do the most, but he went and killed a nigga that I went on a date with, and I hadn’t even fucked?

It took everything in me not to cuss his ass out but now was not the time.

Everyone had their phones out and ready to throw us on the Florida tea page.

I’ll pass on that shit tonight. I would never give a bitch a one up on me when it came to my nigga.

“I’m just glad this our shit. You would’ve got us put out.”

“Whodie, get the fuck away from me,” I said lowly before I walked away to go to the bathroom.

I had no idea Whodie had followed me all the way to the bathroom until his voice boomed.

“Aye, clear this bitch out,” Whodie told the girls in the bathroom.

I stood in the mirror like his ass wasn’t standing there. Nigga had just told me I did too much to a bitch that approached me.

“Muthafucka, is you cool?” He asked.

“Nigga, are you cool? You just told me I did too much. What you want me to bow down to these bitches. Now I’m back to asking, are you fucking her?”

“No, I’m not fuckin’ her. You took what I said the wrong way.”

“Whodie, I don’t give a fuck what you was trying to say. The shit came off wrong. You literally did the most to a nigga I didn’t even give any pussy to.”

Just reminding him of it made him clench his jaw.

“You ain’t gotta give a nigga shit. All a bitch ass nigga gotta do is sniff ‘round yo’ shit and I’mma kill ‘em.”

I wet a napkin and pressed it on the scratch under my eye. Whodie walked up behind and slapped my ass.

“My fucking face scratched up.”

“Turn ‘round,” Whodie said.

“Whodie, I’m not about to go there with you. My high is blown because of this bitch. I’m ready to go the fuck home.”

He turned me around and sat me on the wet counter. The dress I had on flipped right up without a problem. He ran his finger through my thin g-string before he scooted me to the edge and slipped his dick right out of his jeans. As soon as he entered me, I threw my head back.

“You like showin’ niggas my pussy?” He asked, biting his lip.

“No,” I said as he pounded my pussy so hard my head was banging on the mirror.

We were so busy enjoying the moment, we forgot we were in the bathroom until someone walked in.

“Oh shit! My bad,” she said, rushing back out the door.

Whodie grabbed my neck and showed me no mercy as he stared into my eyes while he came.

“Bring yo’ ass on so we can go home. I’m not fuckin’ done,” he said.

His phone buzzed, then mine at the same time. Hollow had put us in a group chat.

I frowned because he hated group chats. I opened the message.

Hollow: They just kicked yo’ door in.

My heart dropped.

“What?” Whodie asked, seeing my face.

He finally grabbed his phone and stared at the message.

“Let’s go,” he said.

The club was still jumping. The moments we had just had had now faded. If it wasn’t one thing, it was another. The night air hit me and Whodie, instantly sobering us.

“Fuck they got a warrant for you for?” Whodie asked.

“I don’t fucking know.”

“Dammit, man. Call Hollow and get some information.”

Hit Hollow’s name on my phone and waited for him to answer.

“Where you at?” Hollow answered.

“How the fuck did you know they were kicking my door in?”

“Nigga, do you really think I don’t be watchin’ and listenin’? Soon as you came to me wit’ this muthafucka burnin’ shit down and fuckin’ wit’ you, I jumped into big brother mode. I got a camera at your garage and one hiding behind the light on yo’ front porch.”

“How do you know they got a warrant?”

“As they were beating on the door, they tell you they got a warrant. I couldn’t tell you what happened when they kicked the door in. Adore, them folks been building some shit on you again. This was not no random ass kick-in.”

“Did they walk out with anything?” Adore asked.

“Nah, bruh. They came out empty-handed.”

“‘Cause I cleared that bitch the day I moved out. Told yo’ ass not to ever have shit where we lay our head at. Have you not learned that shit from the last time?” Whodie said.

“Do y’all think someone set me up?” I asked both of them.

“Shit, I don’t think,” Hollow said.

“Man, fuck all that. We not lettin’ her turn herself in over no bullshit case.”

“I didn’t say I was–”

“The look you got lettin’ me kno’ you ready to turn yo’self in me,” Whodie said.

“Adore, listen to me. Don’t move stupid. We can work this shit from the outside,” Hollow said through the phone.

“Or they can pick me up like I’m some random bitch off the street,” I said.

“They not gonna do that.”

“They already kicked my door in!” I snapped.

Everyone went silent, like we all were thinking of our next move. If they had a warrant, then they had enough information on me. If I ran, they’ll start picking all my shit apart like my businesses, my people, and my money.

“No,” I said quietly.

“What?” Whodie asked.

“I’m not letting them tear down everything I built looking for me.”

“Adore, don’t do that. We can move you. Get you outta the city.”

“And leave you?” I turned to him. That shut him up. “I built this shit. I’m not about to run from it.”

Hollow exhaled through the phone, “If you do this, you do it the right way. No talking and no statements.”

“I know how this goes,” I said.

We all went quiet again. Whodie pulled into a dark lot and cut the engine off.

“You not goin’.”

“I am,” I replied. “It’s the only way to keep them off you.”

He ran his hands through his locs. “Man…you just got me back right and now you…”

“I’m not going nowhere,” I cut him off. “I’m handling this.”

“That’s the same shit!” he snapped.

“No, the fuck it’s not. I’m making sure I come back to you.”

“I don’t wanna lose you, Adore,” he said lowly.

“And you’re not. Can you just trust me?”

“If you gonna turn yo’self in, then I’m ridin’ wit’ you,” Whodie said.

“No! You don’t need to be seen with me right now.”

“Man, I don’t give a fuck ‘bout none of that shit.”

“Whodie,” Hollow said through the phone. “She’s right.”

“If they building a case, I need you to be clean,” I told him.

“And what the fuck stoppin’ me from startin’ this car and drivin’ this bitch somewhere else?”

I looked over at him. This shit was really about to test our loyalty.

“Hollow, tell Love to meet me at the address I’m about to send.”

“I got you,” he said before hanging up.

Whodie drove and parked the car at the location I had sent Love. I chose Love to take me because I couldn’t face walking away from Whodie. We used to always joke about us going on the run if it came down to it. Now that we had the opportunity, it was selfish. They wanted me and not him.

I looked over to Whodie, who had his head leaned back against the headrest. His eyes stayed straight ahead. My heart was already breaking having to leave him. Shit was going so good.

“Come here, man, fuck,” Whodie said.

I crawled over and sat in his lap. We didn’t say shit. I just leaned my head against his shoulder as we waited for Love.

“Adore, I love you. Once I figure all this shit out, we’re not lookin’ back. I don’t ever wanna go through this shit again. You was worried ‘bout me leavin’ you and now you leavin’ me,” he said.

“I’m not leaving you. I’m keeping these folks off you and our crews. Hopefully they’ll give me a bond, and I’ll be home.”

He held on to me and kissed me repeatedly. Even when the headlights of Love’s car pulled up, Whodie still wouldn’t let me go. Love had to flash her lights. Out of respect for how late it was, and we both knew how Hollow got about his wife, we kissed one more time.

“I love you,” I told him.

“I love you too,” he replied.
