Chapter 8 I Snapped at Him
He laughed.
"Haha, that was just a joke. Don't be angry, don't be angry!"
The moment the door opened, his ugly face loomed over me.
He smiled apologetically, but I stayed on guard.
"I was outside. Afraid you'd dirty my house if you came in."
He swallowed, forcing down his anger.
"Alright. Just like you said."
"Say what you need to say."
Every extra minute felt like a waste. I was annoyed.
I was afraid I'd explode any second.
He made an unbelievable request.
"Could you talk to the little girl's parents and tell them to stop bothering me? My life is completely restricted right now."
"What's that got to do with me? Why should I help you?"
"Considering our past, could you?"
He hadn't finished when I cut him off.
"Don't try to use morality on us. There was never any bond between us."
"If there had been, you wouldn't have cheated on your wife or kicked my daughter and me out."
"Everything's over. Can you just stop holding grudges?"
I knew he couldn't keep pretending for long.
He kept pushing.
"Husband and wife are one. Even after divorce, there's still our child. We'll always be connected. As the father, can't you really bear to watch me fail?"
"Bullshit."
He was trying to use the child to control me. Not happening.
After cursing him out, I tried to shut the door.
But his strength won.
"Insane. The grudge isn't with me. Go to the little girl's parents and beg for forgiveness. Why keep coming to me?"
"I tried. They wouldn't see me and let their dog bite me."
Dou Hongfei was clearly desperate. It was heartbreaking.
He deserved it. He had it coming.
"Look, I went to his place yesterday and got bitten. There are teeth marks."
He wanted sympathy.
But instead of pity, I found myself laughing.
"Ha."
I couldn't hold it back.
His face darkened.
"Feeling better now? Can you help me? I'll pay you after."
If it was back when we just divorced, I might have folded for money.
But now, although I wasn't rich, my skills and hard work kept food on the table.
I didn't need his stinky money!
Not everything can be solved with cash. You should understand that.
He added another threat.
"Then I'll take full responsibility for the child's upbringing. I'll be a proper father."
"No thanks."
"What do you want then?"
He wouldn't get his way. He exploded.
I was even angrier.
"It's not that I won't help you. I can't."
"You two have kids in the same school. As parents, you could talk to them."
"Sorry, I can't."
"I wouldn't pour salt on wounds anyway."
"Su Meiyue, to put it bluntly, you just don't want us to live well, do you?"
Irritated, I looked down and shoved him away.
Then I slammed the door shut.
I ignored his curses from outside.
