Chapter 5 Kneeling on the Shore

Back on shore.

Xu Heng was pressing on Lin Yaoyao's chest to bring her back. He knelt there, his expression undone, his face full of regret and anxiety.

What he regretted, I had no way of knowing.

The next second, Xu Heng pinched Lin Yaoyao's mouth open and lowered his head.

Right before he touched her, I grabbed Xu Heng's shoulder. My voice was stiff.

"Let me. You're a man, after all..."

Xu Heng looked like he was about to go mad with urgency. He struck my hand away hard.

"Tian Yue, I didn't think you were this kind of person."

"All you see is that bit between men and women? Saving a life comes first. Do you understand!"

Xu Heng's rage caught me off guard.

Under the crowd's stares, I drew my hand back, ashamed.

Reason told me Xu Heng was rushing to save her. Feeling told me Rescue Breaths did not have to be done by a man who had a girlfriend.

Then, right in front of me, Xu Heng covered Lin Yaoyao's lips.

I ran.

I found an empty, remote place.

Tears fell onto the ground in strings.

The only other time I had cried was in high school, when my family went bankrupt, I had no money, and I was about to be forced to drop out.

This was the first time I cried in seven years.

Not grievance. Not because I had been provoked.

It was knowing I had to face reality.

From the way he treated me, it seemed he did not like me.

From a secret crush in high school through college, every confession was refused. His coldness and impatience were like a peak I could not climb.

When I finally succeeded, it was the moon in a mirror.

One small pebble could make it disappear.

"Little Wildcat?"

"It's been this long, and you're still crying."

A man's voice came, easy, with a bit of teasing in it.

I looked up and met a pair of deep eyes.

I froze.

After a long moment, that face overlapped with someone from seven years ago.

Chu Lin.
