Chapter 137
Henry got into the car and said calmly, "Find out where Victoria went."
Grace was surprised and glanced at him curiously.
"What is it?"
Henry's eyes flashed with coldness, and his entire demeanor exuded an icy sharpness.
Grace quickly straightened her posture and said, "Mr. Harrison, there's an international video conference in half an hour."
Hearing this, Henry furrowed his brow but didn't push further.
"Let's head back, then."
He was curious about what she was doing but didn't feel ready to face her.
A strange surge of emotions left him feeling restless and irritated.
Victoria and Tina visited several shops for lease and narrowed it down to two options.
Victoria sent the two shortlisted options to Diana and called her. "I think these two are pretty good. Which one do you prefer?"
Diana replied, "The one on South Avenue."
Victoria chuckled, her eyes curving into a smile. "How did you know I liked that one better?"
Diana said, "Because it's near a restaurant, a dessert shop, a coffee place, and a fruit store."
Victoria burst out laughing. "Alright, let's go with that one."
Diana added, "I'll handle the negotiations. You can start thinking about how to decorate it."
"Got it." And with that, they made their decision.
As it was getting late, Victoria took Tina out for dinner before letting her clock out for the day.
Victoria then returned to Starlight Terrace.
Just as she entered her apartment building, a voice called out from behind her, "Victoria."
She turned in surprise to see Jayce's pale and sharp features.
"Mr. Caldwell, what a coincidence!"
Jayce replied expressionlessly, "Not a coincidence. I live below you."
"What?" Victoria was stunned. "Since when?"
"Since today," Jayce replied.
Most of her memories from last night were hazy, but learning he was now her neighbor made her happy.
"That's great! We're neighbors now. I hope you'll look out for me," Victoria said with a smile.
Jayce stared at her smiling face before suddenly asking, "Did Henry hurt you last night?"
"Mr. Caldwell..." Delia interrupted, "Mr. Harrison and Mrs. Harrison were together. How could she have been hurt?"
Jayce ignored her and continued to stubbornly stare at Victoria.
Victoria's gaze flickered slightly, feeling awkward.
She had been hurt, but could she admit it?
She shook her head. "No."
Jayce stared at her for a long moment before finally stepping into the elevator when the doors opened.
Victoria lowered her gaze slightly and followed him in, pressing her floor button.
Jayce said, "The fragrance is gone."
Victoria replied immediately, "I'll get it for you. I'll bring it over in a bit."
"Alright."
The elevator grew quiet again. Jayce's gaze shifted to her feet as he asked, "Are your injuries healed?"
"Yes, I'm fine now. Thank you for asking," Victoria said with a nod.
Jayce frowned. "You're so cold."
Huh?
Victoria froze for a moment. Was he... accusing her?
Jayce said, "I'm showing concern. Can't you tell?"
Victoria felt a bit awkward. "Uh... thank you for your concern."
Jayce frowned again, his gaze lowering slightly, the mole under his eye giving him an eerie elegance.
As the elevator ascended slowly, he broke the silence after just a few seconds. "You're really cold."
Victoria was speechless.
"I showed concern for you. You should show some concern for me, too," Jayce said.
Delia felt a bit awkward. Jayce was being way too direct!
Even though they had met Victoria many times, their relationship was nothing more than that of acquaintances!
With Jayce asking like this, Victoria was bound to feel uncomfortable!
Most importantly, she was Henry's wife–not a single woman, and the way Jayce looked at her was unsettling.
Delia hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Mr. Caldwell, Mrs. Harrison mentioned she would pick up the fragrance."
She was subtly reminding Jayce to mind his boundaries.
But Jayce wasn't listening; he just kept staring at Victoria.
Victoria paused for a moment before asking, "Mr. Caldwell, how has your sleep been lately? Are you feeling unwell in any way?"
Jayce had a mental condition, but she wasn't sure of the specifics.
From her interactions with him, she noticed his thinking was different from others, but nothing else seemed out of the ordinary.
Upon hearing her words, Jayce's previously emotionless eyes lit up slightly. He said, "I've been able to sleep, but only for four hours. The chaotic noises have stopped, and... I always think of you."
"Ding!"
As he finished speaking, the elevator doors opened.
Victoria's eyes flickered with surprise. She opened her mouth but didn't know what to say.
Delia quickly explained, "Mrs. Harrison, don't misunderstand. What he means is that your aromatherapy worked wonders, so he often thinks of you because of that."
Jayce frowned. He didn't think that was what he meant. But he couldn't quite put into words what he was trying to say. He looked a bit displeased.
Victoria forced a stiff smile and said, "Mr. Caldwell, we've reached your floor."
Delia tugged at Jayce's sleeve. "Mr. Caldwell, let's go."
Jayce reluctantly stepped out of the elevator, looking back at her. "You said you'd bring the fragrance over."
"I'll be right there," Victoria said quickly.
Victoria nodded hurriedly and reached to press the button to close the elevator doors.
Only when the elevator doors closed off his dark gaze did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.
She rubbed her temples, feeling her thoughts spiral into chaos. Everything seemed to be heading in an unpredictable direction.
Jayce was indeed changing. But his focus seemed to have shifted... to her?
She wasn't some naive young girl anymore. She had loved, been married, and even given birth to a child. She could clearly read the look in Jayce's eyes.
But she couldn't reciprocate. They were from two completely different worlds!
The elevator doors opened again, breaking her chaotic thoughts. By the time she reached Jayce's door, her mind was clear.
Delia opened the door with a cheerful smile. "Mrs. Harrison, you're here. Please, come in."
Victoria smiled and shook her head. "I won't come in. Here, take this. Just call me if there's anything you need."
Delia took it and was about to nod, but Jayce walked over and stared at her intently. "I moved into a new place. Let me treat you to dinner."
Victoria waved her hands quickly. "Thank you, Mr. Caldwell, but I have other things to do, so I won't impose. You..."
"You said you'd repay me before," Jayce said flatly, his face devoid of expression as he stared at her.
His eyes reflected a clear stubbornness.
Victoria froze, unable to refuse. She nodded. "Alright".
