Chapter 153

In apartment, Victoria looked at Jude and said, "Jude, go take a shower, brush your teeth and I'll tell you a bedtime story."

Jude's eyes lit up when he heard this. "Okay, Mom!" He immediately ran into the bathroom.

Victoria went to her room and washed her face with cold water to calm herself down. Many things had happened tonight, which had affected her. She had to calm down and think carefully about what to do next.

The only thing that hadn't been resolved was what had happened on the night five years ago.

Many people said that Victoria had drugged Henry on that night, but she was sure that she was also the one who had been plotted against. She had to figure it out.

Victoria walked out of the room and saw Henry smoking on the balcony. He was tall, lean, and muscular, looking very attractive, but Victoria didn't want to look at him.

Victoria went straight into the guest room. Jude was already on the bed. She lifted the quilt and lay down beside him. Then, she took out the storybook and began to read it softly.

The lights in the room were dim, and Jude felt utterly relaxed. Victoria had never read stories for him, and Jude used to think that was not important. But hearing her soft voice now, he found that this feeling made him very happy.

During this period, he had been relying on recordings to fall asleep. But now, Victoria was right beside him.

Jude suddenly turned over and hugged Victoria. His voice was muffled and soft. "Mom, can you tell me a bedtime story every night?"

Victoria looked at Jude in a daze. His eyes were full of dependence and expectation.

Victoria paused for a while before speaking, "Jude, do you feel that Emma has taken away my attention from you, so you are showing your affection to me, right? Or do you really want to live with me?"

Jude was at a loss for a moment, then said, "I was indeed unconvinced at first. I'm your son, but you like someone else's child."

After a pause, he continued, "But later, I saw you being gentle to her, and I wanted to feel your gentleness, too. I was angry at that time. You are my mother, and you should have been gentle to me. But then I realized that I was indifferent to you, and you must be very sad and disappointed."

Victoria was surprised that Jude had thought so much. She touched his head and said, "I'm indeed very sad."

Jude became nervous. "Mom, I was young and didn't know it was wrong. Can you forgive me?"

Victoria's heart was softened. As a mother, she loved Jude very much. She had really been disappointed before, but when he pleaded with her softly, she couldn't be cold to him.

"I'll give you a chance. If you can firmly choose me, I will always be with you. How about it?" Victoria said to Jude seriously, treating him as an adult.

"I promise!" Jude's eyes sparkled with surprise and happiness. His voice was soft but firm.

Victoria smiled, "Okay, it's time to sleep." She continued reading the fairy tale in a soft voice. Jude fell asleep in her arms for the first time. In her warm and soft arms, he slept particularly well tonight.

The following day, Victoria came out of the guest room, only to see Henry sitting on the sofa. He still wore last night's clothes, and his eyes were bloodshot. The ashtray was full of cigarette butts.

Victoria was surprised to find Henry still here. It seemed that he hadn't slept much last night.

Victoria just glanced at him and then looked away, walking straight towards the kitchen.

Henry looked at her slender back and frowned. He had insomnia again last night and a headache. Her cold and resolute look kept appearing in his mind.

He couldn't understand why she suddenly wanted to divorce him after five years. He thought, "She could tolerate my indifference before. Why can't she tolerate it now? I even promised her that I would give her the warmth she wanted. As my wife, what else is she not satisfied with?"

With this in mind, Henry had sat on the sofa all night, but he still couldn't figure it out.

After what had happened last night, Victoria became even colder towards Henry, as if they were enemies.

Just then, Henry's mobile phone rang. He took it out and saw that it was Barrett calling.

Henry answered the phone in a cold tone, "What's up?"

Barrett no longer had his usual careless style. He said seriously, "Henry, I really found out something."

Hearing this, Henry narrowed his eyes, glanced at Victoria, who was making breakfast in the kitchen, then stood up and walked to the balcony.

As autumn approached, it was cool outside in the morning, making Henry's mind sober. A thin haze hung over the city, which gradually became lighter under the sunlight. Henry said, "Go ahead."

Barrett said, "The surveillance footage of Victoria entering your room five years ago was fake. In the real one, someone helped her into your room."

Upon hearing this, Henry held back his breath. What Barrett said overturned all of Henry's previous doubts and grudges.

Henry thought, "Victoria had also been plotted against. So she is innocent."

Henry swallowed hard, fighting back anger. The inexplicable emotions made him want to escape from the truth. He asked in a hoarse voice, "Is it true?"

"Absolutely true." Barrett was very sure.

"I asked an expert in this field to check the surveillance footage and found this.

There was another probe that recorded the whole process of someone putting something in your glass.

The waitress was wearing mask with that person behind the scenes.

She walked to your side with the glass of wine.

You were talking to someone at that time, so you just picked it up and drank it. "

Barrett paused and continued, "The person who drugged you and the waitress both had nothing to do with Victoria. Henry, what happened five years ago was not Victoria's plot at all."

Henry closed his eyes. After a long while, he asked, "Who plotted against us?"

Barrett cleared his throat and responded, "To figure it out, we have to find out the two people. I have found one so far. The woman is Joanna Meyers, Sebastian's girlfriend."

"I see." Henry hung up the phone. The sunlight shone on him, but he felt a little cold.

He turned around and looked at Victoria. The morning five years ago and what had happened in the past five years came into his mind.

Henry thought, "I wronged her. Victoria is innocent. She really liked me in the past, right? That was why she endured my indifference and tried to warm my heart. But I've always been bothered by this matter."

Henry was full of remorse in an instant. When he reacted, he had already walked behind Victoria and hugged her.

"What are you doing?" Victoria was startled. She pushed Henry away violently and hit him with the spatula in her hand.
