She was a little firecracker. She seemed to have a stick wedged up her ass. I didn't judge. Being in a club, there was always someone dealing with something. Same out on the road. Everybody carried weight.
She certainly did. Maybe it was because she was riding British and not American.
I smiled as that thought drifted through my mind. And I just happened to be looking at her when I did.
She saw. And I might've been dreaming, but… did her lips twitch up? Just a fraction.
She went back to watching Wrench cast his eye over her bike while clutching his paper bag full of donuts. For fuck's sake.
"You might need to wait a while," Wrench said. "Gotta check everything."
"Shit," she muttered.
"You can wait in there if you like." He pointed toward his office door. "Books. Coffee machine. Cold pizza in the fridge. Help yourself." He paused. "Leave me one," he added, pointing to the bag.
"Or you can wait in the clubhouse," I said.
She walked toward his office.
Wrench looked at me.
I shrugged.
