Chapter Thirty-Three

Kat

Iwillingly tossed back the shots Becca ordered for us.

Even as she was cackling over the fact that she ordered cum shots and slippery nipples.

I was glad to see having children didn’t slow down the dirty minds of some people.

Sofia was flushing ever so slightly. Probably something to do with the fact that she was fucking Becca’s brother.

My flush was totally because of the alcohol.

She finished off her manic spree by ordering a round of sex on the beaches, and my fucking head was swimming.

I snagged another bottle of water and downed it in one go.

A giant basket of fries was slid toward us.

If Jacob hadn’t lovingly saluted his drunk as hell wife when we looked up, I would’ve guessed it was Henry. Either way, it was welcome.

We all dove in.

I thought maybe girl time was just… time. With girls. Without talking. Without interrogation. Without any uncomfortable-

“So, my parents are the biggest assholes in the world,” Becca tossed out casually.

I looked down. This much alcohol in me, I was going to fucking cry again.

God dammit. I shouldn’t have started drinking.

Or kept drinking. Or bowed to the peer pressure that led me to be three shots deep in ten minutes.

I ate some more fries and grabbed another bottle of water.

“I won’t say anything else about it tonight, I promise.

I can see you’re upset. I just wanted to say that I had no idea.

I would’ve never done that to you. Or to Henry, for that matter.

I thought I was just… forcing the issue.

I was just forcing the wrong issue, I guess,” she admitted slowly, glancing at me out of the corner of her eye. I shrugged.

“I’m a little surprised you’re here, honestly,” Sofia piped in from my other side. Becca nodded in agreement. Henry’s sister-in-law seemed very sweet. And soft-spoken. The alcohol must’ve been helping her a little here. I shrugged again.

“I needed a drink,” I offered. Sofia laughed. Becca just looked at me. For a long, hard minute. I stared at my drink until she was done. Then she held up her drink.

“Cheers, then,” she said, sounding like she had a plan that I wouldn’t like.

A second basket of fries had arrived right around the time Becca finished her drink.

I was just sipping at that point, barely having made a dent on that first fruity drink.

I needed to sober up. I’d been praising the porcelain goddess enough lately for things I couldn’t control to do it to myself on purpose.

We’d all been chatting for a half hour or so, and I thought maybe the worst part was over. But I’d just been lulled into a false sense of security.

“Are those dumbasses still playing Never Have I Ever? How do they have anything left to say?” Sofia asked with a snort. I liked her, I decided. She was sassy as fuck a few drinks deep. I laughed too.

“It can be fun. It can be very illuminating, too. Let’s play,” Becca offered, sounding far too casual. I hadn’t wanted to play the first time. I certainly didn’t want to play this time. I knew for a FACT I wouldn’t like it this time. Becca was on the warpath.

“I’ll start,” she claimed, holding up five fingers. Five?! We played with THREE, motherfucker.

I held up five fingers.

“Never have I ever broken a bone,” she stated, smirking at me. I put a finger down and took a drink.

“Damn, really?” Sofia asked, putting a finger down and slurping on her mostly empty drink. It was my turn.

“Never have I ever been a well-meaning but meddling older sister,” I bravely stated.

Sofia let a low whistle out through her teeth, but funnily enough, she put down a finger.

Alrighty then. Glad Becca was in good company, tonight.

Becca smirked at me, taking a sip and putting a finger down.

She was enjoying this. I was glad someone was.

“Never have I ever owned a car,” Sofia said, coming way out of left field. I turned toward her slowly.

“What?!” I asked, incredulous. “How?!” I continued. She shrugged.

“Never needed one,” she responded. Well, fine. I put another finger down and drank. We were all down two fingers. This was going to be a quick game. Maybe I should’ve taken myself out instead. Damn.

“Never have I ever taken a bullet for someone I love,” Becca said softly, watching me carefully.

“Woah, what? Becca you’re going to have to drink on that one, since no one’s done that.

Why’d you do that?” Sofia asked tipsily.

This was the entire point, Sofia. You sweet, summer child.

I locked eyes with Becca and chugged my whole damn drink out of the side of the glass like a goddamn savage.

Then, I stood and walked off the roof, looking for a bathroom.

Surprisingly, she didn’t follow.
