Chapter 49

They were so wrapped up in each other that they nearly missed the last day of the Christmas festival. The party was already well under way when they finally tore themselves away from each other, the parade already beginning.

They hurried through the crowd until they stood at the edge of the roped off area, huge, lovely floats rolling past them, full of dancers and people throwing candy to the children in the crowd.

Loud holiday music played as they passed, snippets of songs Cullen knew and had loved since he was a child.

A smile spread across his face as he watched, his hand coming up around Leviathan’s back as he tucked him in close.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Leviathan watching him, felt his warm gaze, but he ignored it, keeping his eyes on the passing floats.

The moment it was over, Leviathan began pulling him along, hurrying him towards the hot cocoa stand before it closed for the night.

Cullen let him tug him along, laughing quietly as they weaved their way through happy families and smiling couples, his hand tight on his until they got to the stand.

Leviathan let go of him to buy the drinks and Cullen found himself gazing around at the decked out area again, a little pang going through his chest when he realized that he would have to wait a whole year before he saw it like this again.

Not that it would seem long at all, with the way Leviathan kept him distracted and entertained. He threw the other man a quick glance and then snuck away, heading towards the stores, wondering if he might be able to buy him something for a present before Leviathan was glued to his side again.

Where do you think you’re going?

He grinned at the voice in his head. Running away.

Don’t make me kidnap you again. He was teasing–but Cullen could hear the undercurrent of a real threat in his voice. It made him grin.

I’ll be right back.

He could sense Leviathan’s disapproval and curiosity, but he let him go, and Cullen was quick to search for the store that had caught his eye before. A small shop that sold various flavors of soft caramel candy bars–

A hand came down on his shoulder, spinning him around. He turned with a challenging grin, ready to tell Leviathan to get lost so he could buy him something.

But it was not Leviathan that stood in front of him now.

“Walker?” He gasped.
