Chapter 10
Serenity
I have definitely been making a vacation today. Lying around watching Netflix is not what I planned, but it helped to get my mind off him.
He did look hot this morning, even without the suit. His hair was tossed a bit and jeans definitely suited him. He had a super tight ass in those jeans. I wasn’t really an ass girl, but with him I sure was. I could tell that I affected him by the way he reacted to how I spoke to Kyle. He found me even funny for a second. Looking down at my shoes, I laughed a little. He liked them.
To be honest, I hate them but maybe I found another purpose for them other than just in the courtroom. My phone went off. I grabbed it off the dresser in my room, secretly hoping it was him. Then my hopes and dreams came crashing back to reality. How the hell did this chick get my number?
Allie-Hey! Did you want to grab some lunch? I have some things that we can do while you’re in town.
Allie- Or if you want to do them by yourself, that’s fine.
Allie- Or whatever you want to do is fine too.
This chick is kind of annoying. Why can”t she just send one message? Shaking my head, I quickly texted her back before she could send ten more.
Me-We can have lunch and talk about what you have in mind. BTW, how did you get my number?
See, it’s not hard to send one text and wait for the other to respond. I waited patiently for her answer and reminded myself to be nice. My phone went off again but seemed like only one. I sighed then, because I spoke too soon.
Allie-Ok. Did you want to go to a fast food place?
Allie- We can go to a sit down place if that’s what you like.
Allie- Oh, there are some food trucks around town that are really good.
Allie- Oh and Kyle gave it to me.
That dickhead. I hurried again to text fast.
Me- There is a diner over on 31st. The food is great. Let’s meet there in an hour.
I made it as straight to the point as I could because that’s what this chick needed. I didn’t need any more questions but if I was being honest, I was hoping that someone else decided he wanted to have lunch there too.
Allie-Sounds good. I will see you in an hour!
I sat there, anticipating another text, but nothing came through. Maybe she was calming down. I sure hoped so, because she was one of the few people that I knew in town. I guessed I could say Kyle was a friend too, but he really shouldn’t have given her my number without asking me. I sighed again. Men.
I quickly changed and started to think about my mystery man again. I grabbed a hair tie in case I needed to put my hair up, but decided I would not bring a purse, so after I grab my credit card and ID, I’m ready to leave. When I walked out of the hotel, I looked around and realized I have no idea where I was going. I definitely didn’t pay attention when the driver dropped me off earlier. I pulled up the GPS on my phone and punched in the diner and started to walk.
It was such a beautiful day. The weather was so different here than back at home. Walking down the sidewalk, I just kept glancing at the trees. They had so many colors that I couldn’t even name them all. There were so many people who actually walk around this city. I wondered how many are tourists and how many actually lived here. Or how many were going to their jobs or simply walking around here like me?
While walking, I looked at my phone and realized I was about two blocks away. I saw a park and decided to walk through it instead of staying on the street sidewalk. According to the GPS, it would take me right to where the diner was.
I looked around a couple walking their dogs and another couple holding hands. Was it their first dates or their normal daily routines? Trying to figure out people’s stories just by looking at them had always fascinated me because no one could ever know everyone’s story. We all spent so much time assuming we knew everything but we didn’t take the time to slow down and see everything for what it was. I was guilty of spending too much time wondering what was next but deep down, I hoped that one day someone would wonder these same things about me and whoever I ended up with. I took a heavy sign and looked down at my feet as I’m walking. I sighed and closed my eyes for a brief second.
Suddenly, I’m met with something hard in front of me.
“What the hell!” I was about to fall backward, but someone caught me by the hip. I reached for the arm that was grabbing me and used my other hand to grab my head because I had a head rush from head butting something. No, I’m sorry or anything? What the fuck?
“Are you not going to apologize for standing in the way of people that are walking?” Nothing still. I realized that I still have my eyes closed, so I opened them and let them adjust and gasped.
“Go figure I was getting the silent treatment.”
Theo. We both still haven”t let go of one another. The sparks that were running through my fingertips felt overwhelming.I looked up at him and felt his stare bore into me. I could see a light trying to come through his eyes but then something dark was trying to take hold of him too. The thought reminded me of someone else. I went to look away but he grabbed my chin and turned me back to him.
“Are you okay?” He asked and all I could do was smile.
“My head is pounding now that I ran into your rock hard back but I’m fine.” He went to move his hand off my hip but I held him in place and tried to move closer to him. He hesitated a little but then moved closer to me too. I took my hand and put it on his chest and realized his heart was racing.
“Are you okay?” I looked into his eyes, trying to figure out what else was there in those eyes. He looked like he was battling himself right now. I took my hand and pressed it on his cheek and he closed his eyes briefly.
“I have to go.” He let go of my hip and turned to walk away.
“You can’t avoid me forever. We will see each other again, Theo. I promise you that.”
Firm and to the point. Or maybe I just scared him off again. He turned and looked back at me once more and walked off with his hands in his pockets.
Biting my lip, I looked at my phone and started walking the way toward the diner again. I looked back once more and saw him still walking. As I stared, it’s like he felt it and turned once more. I swear I could see a small smile on his face just then. Yup, I got him again. I meant it when I said that I would see him again too. Whether he wanted to believe it or not, it would happen and I would know his story.
