Slate sat across from his mother, wondering how to begin.

It had started shortly after Arald’s capture and at first he was sure it was a reaction to the drug used to render him unconscious, so he waited, thinking it would clear his system.

But whatever was causing him to feel this way hadn’t disappeared even after he shifted a few times and, in fact, for some reason, the reaction only intensified.

Finally, at a loss to explain it, Slate visited the hospital in Tajikistan where he found out what was happening to him.
