Chapter 21

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

RYAN

NOW

W hen I looked across the bar and saw that asshole trying to talk to Lexi, I could see how disinterested she was from over here. Yet he continued to talk to her, so obviously he didn’t notice her disinterest. All it took was one slight tap on Haz’s shoulder and we were both over there in a second. Once we took him outside, we stood there and watched as he walked down the street with his hands in his pockets, not once turning around and looking back at us. Haz followed him down the pathway for a little bit before turning around and walking back towards me as I leaned against the side of the building.

“Well, that was just like old times. Chasing away guys who dared to speak to Lexi Davis,” Haz laughed as he approached me and I rolled my eyes at him, although he wasn’t not wrong. We both turned around as we heard the door of the bar open up and out-stepped Lexi. She crossed her arms over her chest and ran her hands up and down her arms, the night air sending a chill around us and her jacket wasn’t thick enough to keep her warm.

“Can we go home?” She looked between Haz and I before locking her eyes on mine. I nodded at her and Haz walked beside her and pulled her into a hug.

“I missed having you party with us, baby Davis.” He reached a hand up and placed it on top of her head as he shook the top of her hair like she was a child.

“You kids head on home. I’m going to go and score a few more birthday drinks off Skye.” He waved at us both as he walked back inside the bar.

I put my arm out for Lexi to step towards my bike. We didn't say anything to each other as we got on the bike but I noticed how she moved herself even closer than earlier and instantly wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her head perfectly against my back. She stayed tightly against me until I pulled into her driveway and turned the bike off. I helped her off the bike and took the helmet off her before walking her up to the front door.

I couldn’t read her emotions after tonight so I was being cautious and letting her make the first move in case she was angry that Haz and I stepped in and told that guy to leave.

“Goodnight, Lex,” I said as she reached out to twist the doorknob and step inside her house. I had just reached the porch steps when I heard her speak.

“Ry, wait.” I turned to see her walking back out the front door and towards me. “About earlier, I wasn’t interested in that guy.”

“I know.” I leaned against the porch and put both of my hands on the wood behind me.

“What do you mean, you know? How did you know?” She stepped right in front of me and raised one eyebrow and I laughed at her reaction. Anyone who knew her would’ve been able to see she wasn’t interested.

“Because, Lexi, I know you. I’ve seen what you look like when you’re interested in someone and that was not it.”

“Okay so what exactly do I look like when I’m interested in someone then?” Her tongue slipped out of her mouth and slid across her bottom lip and she looked up at me with her blue eyes. I saw a familiar hunger in her eyes, one I haven’t seen in five years. Even through the makeup, her cheeks had a red glow to them. I reached up and pushed a strand of hair off her face and behind her ear and I could feel the goosebumps as they raised on her skin under my touch.

“This, Lexi. This is how you look when you’re interested in someone. Tell me I’m wrong.” I pulled her face closer to mine and my lips almost reached hers.

“You’re not wrong.” She took the final step towards me and closed the space between us. It had been five years since I kissed Lexi Davis, and as soon as our lips met I knew I would never go five years without her again. I put one hand on the nape of her neck as the other one slid down her spine before resting on her lower back as I pulled her tightly against me. We didn’t break the kiss as we entered her house and I reached out my foot to kick the front door closed behind us before pushing her against the wall at the bottom of the stairs.

My hands reached up to her shoulders as I slid her jacket down her arms before throwing it on the floor behind us and she followed the same actions with my leather cut. I bent down slightly to put my hands underneath her and lifted her up as she locked her legs around my waist and I walked her up the stairs and headed towards her bedroom. I could make my way to her bedroom with my eyes closed. I had walked this hallway many times in the dark when her dad and Jay were sleeping. Once we reached her room, she put her hands on the hem of my shirt and pulled it up over my head and ran her finger along the tattoo on my chest that I didn’t have the last time we did this, before she pulled me back down towards her.

I woke up and felt the weight of Lexi as she slept with her head on my chest. I reached my hand out to push the loose hair off her face. Her mouth was slightly open and I could hear her soft snores against my chest.

“Stop watching me sleep,” she mumbled against my chest as she kept her eyes closed and her head moved as I laughed.

My phone started ringing from my pants that were on the floor beside us and Lexi reached down to grab it before answering it. I knew exactly who would have been calling me because there was only one person Lexi would have answered my phone for. I heard her laughing as her chest was resting on my own. She held out the phone to me with one hand as she reached down to grab my shirt from the floor and pulled it over her head to cover her naked body as she stood out of the bed.

“What do you want?” I said into the phone as I pressed it against my ear. I watched Lexi leave the room in nothing but my shirt that only just reached her thighs. I fought the urge to pull her straight back into the bed.

“Thought you would’ve been in a better mood after finally getting laid,” Haz laughed on the other end of the phone and I kicked my feet off the bed and grabbed my pants off the floor and pulled them up my legs.

“I was just concerned when I showed up at your place this morning and your bed was empty, but then I called you and baby Davis answered the phone so I guess that answers the mystery of the missing Ryan Blake.”

I followed the smell of coffee and bacon that was coming from the kitchen downstairs as Haz continued to talk about Lexi.

“Can’t say I’m surprised though, really.”

“Did you actually need something, Haz?” I was irritated that his call made Lexi leave the bed earlier and I didn’t want to listen to his teasing anymore.

“Ty called me before. Your dad has apparently called for an urgent club meeting this afternoon,” he said as he finally got to the point of the phone call. I pulled the phone away from my ear and checked for any other missed calls but I didn’t have any.

“He hasn’t called me.”

“Me either.”

If there was going to be a club meeting then I needed to be there. I was Vice President. There would be no reason for them to cut Haz and I from this meeting, unless it was to discuss something that my dad knew we wouldn’t agree with and there was only one thing that we wouldn’t be a part of and that was drugs.

“Get Ty to find out the time and we will be there.”

Haz said he would get the time off Ty and let me know when to be ready to go. Then he made yet another joke about me being with Lexi which made me hang up on him.

I walked into the kitchen and Lexi had already made two coffees and was standing at the kitchen bench dishing out some bacon and pancakes onto the two plates in front of her. I walked over and stood behind her and wrapped my arms around her waist and kissed her neck.

“I made breakfast if you’re hungry,” she said as she tilted her head slightly to the side and placed her hands on top of mine on her waist.

“I’m starving.” I turned her around, picked her up and sat her down on the kitchen bench before pulling her closer and she wrapped her arms around my neck and tilted her head up as I moved down to connect our lips together.
