Chapter 27
"Who are you and why are you?" I asked my head throbbing ever since I tried escaping. I don't remember much of what had been done to me but every time I tried opening my eyes they couldn't.
"Just come with me," the man repeated. Every instinct in my body was screaming danger. I was too weak to resist even when he put his hand around me lifting me up. I tried to get away from him but none of my organs functioned. "Calm down, I'm not here to hurt you."
I could hear gunshots going off at a distance. My breath hitched praying that whatever was happening I had to make it out alive before he caught me. "He'll kill me if he finds me."
I heard the girl shuffle in my arms while I watched her. Her black long hair fell over my arms while I made my way out of the shipping docks. The gunshots coming from the masked men were loud compared to Ivan's men. I was sure they were Ivan's men because I spotted his right hand man there.
The boy was fighting at the forefront ensuring none of his men got injured.
"You, you stay. Him and I will go get Mariya inside!
He barked. I remained hidden on the opposite side with the girl in my arms. She looked so feeble her breath coming in short gasps.
If she was not saved she wouldn't make it.
What had they done to her. Her clothes clang to her body sweat covering her entirely.
Her eyes slowly opened and I was met with a pair of brown hazel eyes. I watched her take in a deep breath her eyes darting from the position I held her thoughts of running clearly showing. "Who are you," she whispered.
"Kayde," I answered. My blue eyes laced with concern.
From my stare I could see her depicting I was not one of the masked men.
I took a deep breath of relief. I finally found her.
"Take me to him," she said. Her eyes seeming a bit confused for awhile before registering she hadn't given a name. "Take me to Ivan,"She repeated.
I masked the emotions I had when she mentioned his name.
So it was true Ivan was involved with the minor.
I didn't know what I thought of that man I almost felt guilty for arresting him for being involved with a minor but I was right.
"I can't take you to him it's inappropriate in the eyes of the law, Mariya," I said.
Her eyes widened a realization in them. " You are not one of his men," she said.
She tried to jump out of my arms and I held her still when the tears hit her eyes.
Seeing her cry alarmed me and I put her down. "I may not be one of his men but I'm here to rescue you. My name is detective Kayde Williams I'm here to rescue you," I reassured. She took two weak steps away from me her eyes resolute.
"No I do not trust you. If you are not one of Ivan's men you must be working for that man so stay away from me. He has connections in the police. How can I be assured you are not among them?" She asked. There was no way to reassure her I was not working for him without sounding suspicious.
"Who is him?"I asked.
"Don't play stupid. It won't work with me. You are clearly working for my father in trying to kill me!" She yelled. This earned attention from Ivan's men who were headed inside the shipping container I took her from.
"Mariya," he said. She turned and faced him. Immediately her face saw him and she tried running towards him. I took her hand taking a gun from my back aiming it at him.
"Detective I am not in the mood for your silly games and Ivan isn't here to entertain you and trust me when I tell you I'm willing to shoot you to have her so if I were you I would step away from her," he threatened.
His stance was serious in terms of attacking and like he said I was sure he would shoot if I didn't let her go.
Seeing that I was outnumbered I tried thinking of an escape.
The gunshots started ricocheting towards us and we all turned to see a group of masked men shooting at us.
This was bad the girl was needed as a witness I needed to ensure she left safe and sound.
"Protect Mariya at all costs and if the detective gets in the way take him out!
" Ordered Ramon. The boy wasn't playing it seemed the girl must be very important to Ivan.
I pulled the girl with me behind the container who was too weak to even stand.
Ramon also fell back with us closely watching me.
"Let her go. We are outnumbered and she needs to be taken to safety.
I will not ask again detective. If something happens to her we are both as good as dead.
You will be first because I will kill you with my own hands and if Ivan is feeling forgiving he may spare me but you detective he will dig you out of the shallow grave you will be buried in and kill you again and again.
So if you know what is best for the both of us give Mariya to me. She needs help!"
"Let me go!" She yelled yanking her hand with the little strength she had and fell into the arms of Ramon who was quick to catch her. Turning to his men he turned and shouted, "Cover us and do not let the detective trail us!"
His men surrounded him firing at the two masked men remaining the others hidden behind the shipping containers.
I turned to the coordinates I was given by Blck Python.
I had secretly taken the information Ivan had offered before I left his penthouse.
I found him in his nest and after a few threats he finally gave me the coordinates to find the person behind my fiance's leaked video.
He refused to give me a name saying his life would be endangered but the location led me to the missing prime minister's daughter.
Who claimed her father is the one who is after her life.
His daughter who would be in Ivan's custody who the evidence pointed out was involved with in an illicit relationship with her. Something wasn't right and I needed to find out what it was.
