Chapter 28
"You are suspended detective Williams until farther notice get yourself off this case. Consider it a vacation. I'll inform the department you'll be on leave to focus on your upcoming wedding!" He ordered.
"But chief, I've got a serious lead on the case. You can't just suspend me when we are almost there," I answered frustrated. The chief sat at his desk his probing eyes never leaving mine.
"I don't care whether you are almost cracking the case.
Let me humor you for minute. You went on a raid, all by yourself, saw the suspect, rescued the victim, let the victim get kidnapped again and you are here telling me you are almost there.
Apart from that you are claiming the prime minister is behind the kidnapping of his own daughter.
Doesn't this seem a bit personal? Is it because of the tape that was leaked? " He questioned.
"It's not what it looks like. Let me find hard evidence. I can prove he is behind this," I reasoned.
"One more word regarding this case detective and you are off the squad. Fall back and go to your fiancee she is waiting for you outside. We are done here!" He finalized walking out of the office.
The anger kept gnawing at my skin. I wanted to toss the chair across the room but it would only make things worse for me.
Suarez snitched. How else would have the chief known I went to the container.
To make things worse Valentina was outside waiting for me and I didn't feel like seeing her.
It had been a whole month of me ignoring her and not picking her calls.
I had stayed at Suarez's place after I left Evan's penthouse and now the guy snitched on me.
Holding the bridge of my nose as I tried to calm down.
I didn't want to see Val yet I didn't know what to say to her.
She was the reason the chief was doubting me.
He thought that I was going after the prime minister because of her.
A splitting headache was making it's way everytime I thought of the entire situation.
Walking out of the office I headed to my car and just left.
Who cared where I went I didn't want to be anywhere near her.
Taking the stairs two at a time I headed straight to my car while I heard her calling my name.
"Kayde, Kayde please wait. We need to talk.
You can't keep ignoring me forever," she yelled.
Of course I would. Why wouldn't I? I knew what she did with the prime minister behind my back and I wasn't ready to talk about that.
I wasn't a saint when it came to Ivan yet I still hadn't slept with him just because of her.
I held back for her God knows how much that man drove me insane.
He was right and I hated to admit it. Even as I sat in my car completely livid not bothering with Val trying to catch up with me.
My mind was only thinking of one person.
Ivan Bratan, I had to go to him so he could tell me the whereabouts of Mariya.
That ought to shed some light on the case.
I could see that Valentina was tailing me and I didn't bother to lose her since I was headed to his office.
I still had a month left of working for him so he wouldn't file charges against Suarez and I, perfect excuse.
"Detective Williams you are here early, Mr Bratan is still in a meeting with a potential investor.
I don't think he was expecting you today.
I think you should come back tomorrow," said the receptionist. I watched how she fidgeted while watching me.
Her hands tapped on the desk while her voice held some sort of dread.
I heard a voice I very much recognized and realized why she acted the way she did. He was here!
"Detective Williams, what a pleasure to see you. Are you also here to acquire some ammunition from Mr Bratan?" asked the prime minister. As if luck would have it Valentina also walked in at the same time calling for me. "Kayde..."
Whatever she had to say was left hanging when her eyes fell on her lover.
The surprise that was on her face said it all.
The rumors were indeed true. I kept denying it over and over again only for it to be confirmed right before my eyes.
"Valentina always a pleasure to see those flaming locs of auburn hair.
You look stunning as always," he teased.
Anger began boiling deep in the pit of my stomach while Val jumped to hold me back.
I gently pulled my arm from her and took two steps away from her.
"Mr Rousell your words are rather inappropriate I wouldn't want anyone to think we are well acquainted otherwise the fake video circulating would be proved valid," she spat back clearly annoyed. The prime minister chuckled at her words enjoying the attention he was getting from the performance.
"How nice of you to try and shut the rumors but that wasn't what you were saying when you referred to me as Dave. When your lovely hands were on my desk..." He taunted.
I felt arms around me holding me back only to realize it was Ivan who held me not to pounce on the stupid man standing before me.He was tainting Valentina's repitation and his words would make the case worse.
"How dare you such filthy things to my fiancee.
She is a woman of character and whatever video is circulating out there it has nothing to do with her Mr Prime minister please ground yourself," I yelled.
"Come down tiger. Don't let your claws show just yet it wouldn't be good for your fiancee and yourself.
Whether the video is fake or not. I am a man and your soon to be wife is quite a looker everyone would love a bite.
If you are not feeding her well, why else would she need to look elsewhere for a better meal detective.
You are smart Williams ask yourself that question," he instigated.
He walked out the office leaving everyone in a standstill.
Valentina had tears in her eyes while Ivan was still holding me back making sure I don't go after him.
How dare he say such horrid things to my fiancee.
I pulled out of Ivan's hold and took Valentina into my arms. I wouldn't let anyone bully her or taint her reputation she was a beautiful and smart woman who deserved a man who wouldn't do what he did to her.
We had not had the conversation on what happened between her and the prime minister but I wasn't going to let anyone hurt her.
