Chapter 11 Hooked

I only meant to make Sheng Yichuan uncomfortable.

I didn’t expect it to backfire on me.

For the entire weekend, Sheng Yan refused to let me leave.

We tangled together in his house, day and night.

He seemed to have forgotten he was the one being blackmailed.

On Sunday afternoon, I was completely exhausted. I asked him:

“Sheng Yan, just admit it. When I said I like you, weren’t you a little happy?”

Sheng Yan replied coldly, “Sweet words. I won’t believe a single one.”

Even so, he lowered his head and kissed me as if tasting something precious—gentle and meticulous.

There was still one month until the election ended.

I met with Sheng Yan more and more often.

He no longer resisted any of my requests.

Sometimes he would quietly shower first and spray on the cologne I liked.

I never held back my praise.

As long as he pleased me, I showered him with compliments.

But once the semester got busy, I had less and less time.

I hadn’t contacted him for nearly a week.

On the seventh night, Sheng Yan finally couldn’t take it anymore and sent me a message first:

[Got a new suit today. Gunmetal gray.]

Unfortunately, after I finished my paper, I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow.

I didn’t reply.

When I woke up the next day, my WeChat was full of unread messages.

Sheng Yan: […Not looking?]

[Heh. Last time you said gunmetal gray suits looked good.]

[So you were lying after all.]

[What are you busy with?]

[Is our relationship over? Great.]

[Just casual shots.]

I saved the pictures, put away my phone, and didn’t reply.

I had been stringing him along. It was time to reel him in.

Today our department was holding a fun sports day.

My senior sister and I were in charge of setting up the guest seating.

After we finished, I noticed a large crowd gathering not far away.

I asked my senior, “What’s going on over there?”

“You haven’t heard?” She loved sharing gossip. “The news spread this morning. A major school shareholder is coming to watch our sports day.”

I was surprised. “It’s just a fun sports event. Did we really need to alarm such a big shot?”

“Who knows? Shareholders like to drop by for inspections sometimes.”

“Which shareholder is so free?” I muttered.

“Sheng Yichuan’s brother.”

I froze while holding the equipment.

“Sheng Yan?”

“Yeah. The Sheng family donated a building to the school, so he became a shareholder.”

As we spoke, Sheng Yan walked over.

He was wearing that gunmetal gray suit, surrounded by school leaders, his steps steady and powerful.

When he passed me, he gave me a light glance.

His face was expressionless, as if he didn’t know me at all.
