Chapter 22

The whole room had been renovated with all the broken furniture being replaced. The old curtains had been changed into blue ones and there were a few flowerpots placed at the windows. The whole house now had a comfy atmosphere. "You're back?"

Harrison turned and saw Harper behind him. "Welcome home. How was work?" "It was okay. When did you-" "Oh the house? I decided to stop by a store and bought all this stuff. There's no need to worry about it,I actually got a huge discount" It was like some sort of miracle. Harper wanted to pay for the furniture she'd bought, so she brought out the credit card Harrison had given her.

She didn't know why,but the staff went crazy when they saw the card— she even had to show them her marriage certificate and when she did, they made a few calls and she got a discount, a huge discount.

Harrison listened to Harper's story and made a mental note to himself— he had to go visit that place, the staff there deserve a reward

"Sit down, dinner will be ready soon". Harrison sat down and as he watched Harper work skillfully in the kitchen, his heart couldn't help but stir lightly. When he was in Willowbrook, there were hardly any servants in his thousands of square meter villa, and even if there were people, it was still very empty. But now, as long as Harper was at home, the house seemed to come alive, with the feeling of a home.

Harper saw Harrison staring at her and couldn't help but ask "Is there something wrong?" "No" "I want to go apply for a job at Carson Group tomorrow" "Ok. Tell me if you need any help" "It's okay." Harper shook her head quickly, she couldn't cause any more trouble for Harrison. "I'll find a way to get into the company. I want to make big money so that I can support you if you ever lose your job!"

Harrison was silent for a moment before speaking in his usual tone. "Are you sure you can afford to support me?" "Well,if I can't support you, I'll just offer myself to you". Harper paused for a moment. "Actually the company belongs to my mother. I'm supposed to inherit the company if anything happens to her,or if she and dad separate. There's some sort of will that states that but I don't know where it is" "Is that true?" Harrison furrowed his brow,he didn't know about that. Harper nodded in response "I want to get back what belongs to me, because I want to protect you"

Harrison's breath caught in his throat. He couldn't speak, his heart felt like it had been lightly struck, and his chest was filled in an instant. From childhood to adulthood, he had faced everything alone, from being ostracized by the Whitney Family, to experiencing all kinds of darkness, to coming back with a murderous aura and using any means necessary to become the heir of Whitney Corp. He had always been alone, without any companions. And now, this girl in front of him was saying that she wanted to protect him.

After dinner, Harrison entered the room and saw that Harper was already fast asleep. He laid down beside her and stared at her for a moment before kissing her on the forehead. There was no need for her to protect him,he was going to protect her instead.

A few hours later Harper woke up and looked at the sleeping Harrison. She kissed him on the cheek before standing up. She was going to apply for a job today and she needed to prepare her bargaining chips.

Harper stood in front of the door and was about to enter but she was stopped by the security guards at the door "Why won't you let me in?" "Sorry Miss but Miss Carson said you shouldn't be allowed into the company". Just as Harper was feeling frustrated, she heard a 'ding' and looked at her phone to see a message from Harrison.

'The CEO's at the golf course negotiating with a client, I'm accompanying him and should be back home before dinner'

Harper looked at her phone screen and smiled. Her husband was really a timely rain!

Harper got into a taxi and she soon arrived at the city golf course. "Well, well look what the cat dragged in"
