Chapter 25

Harper stared at the food before her in surprise. Harrison had told her that he wanted to take her out for dinner, but she didn't expect it to be this extravagant! Harrison looked at her and saw the look of shock on her face so he couldn't help but ask "Is there something wrong?" "This- this is way too much, it's probably expensive too. Where did you get the money for all this?" Harrison nudged Clyde with his elbow and he cleared his throat before speaking "I have a friend who happens to be the owner of this restaurant. He heard I was coming today, and he gave me a discount, so the food's not as expensive as you think" "Oh, thanks. By the way I saw you with Harrison a few weeks ago, what's your relationship?"

Clyde blinked at Harper's question before turning to look at Harrison who looked at him with a 'you handle it'. Mr Whit- no I mean H-Harrison and I are friends" "So, how long have you known each other?" "Ten years" This time, Clyde wasn't lying— he lost his parents at a tender age and was taken in by Harrison's grandfather — his dad worked for him before his death.

Clyde grew up with Harrison, and he'd had been working with him since he took over Whitney Corp— all that time added up to about ten years.

"You've known each other for a decade? That's quite a long time" "It is". Harrison saw that his wife wasn't paying attention to him so he turned his head and spoke "Hey Clyde, don't you have to work overtime tonight?"

Clyde suddenly became a bit confused. What did the boss mean by saying he needed to work overtime? Wasn't he the one who gives him orders to carry out? He most certainly didn't give him anything to do so why... Clyde turned his head and happened to make eye contact with Harrison and his cold gaze scared him into standing up "He's right, I do have to work overtime. Thanks for reminding me. Goodnight mada- I mean sister-in-law"

Clyde reached the exit door and he heard a ding from his phone. He looked down and was stunned "Good job tonight. I'll increase your end-of-the-year bonus from now on". Clyde became overjoyed and his bad mood disappeared. He'd gladly accompany the CEO and his wife for dinner every single day!

Harper watched as Clyde left and turned to look at her husband "Why'd you send him away?" "I wanted it to be just the two of us. Is there anything wrong with wanting to have dinner alone with my wife?" Harper's heart warmed at Harrison's words. "Don't forget to tell me if you have any difficulty okay?" "Hmm"

The next day, Harper appeared at the office. She was assigned to the worst design team B, instead of design team A where Kaylie was the team leader. She already knew it was William's handiwork, but she didn't care. What matters is that she's finally gotten a job — and that made her one step closer to reclaiming what belongs to her mother!

Several people stared at Harper with weird gazes as soon as she walked in but she didn't mind at all. She heard the sound of high heels and looked up to see a lady dressed in red. "I'm Lauren, the deputy leader of this team" "Nice to meet you ma'am" Lauren wasn't impressed by Harper's humble attitude at all and simply rolled her eyes. "As an intern, you have the job of ordering takeout and doing a few menial jobs. Can you handle it?" "Yes ma'am" "You can go sit over there"

It hadn't been up to ten minutes since Harper had settled down when the leader of the team came in and knocked on an empty table twice. "Okay everyone I have an important announcement to make. From now on, Lauren's no longer the deputy leader of this team" Hearing this, Lauren sprang up from her chair in shock "I'm not the deputy leader anymore? Then who is?" "Harper Carson" "Who?!"
