The exclamation came from two people at the same time "What do you mean that she's the new deputy leader? She just got here!" "How could I be the new deputy leader? I just got here!" The team leader simply shrugged "Orders from above. Now please get back to work. I don't want anyone lazing around"
As soon as the team leader left, Lauren turned to Harper with a menacing look "Well,well who would have thought that Miss Carson had such a great ability to pull me down from my position as soon as she got here?" " I-I'll go tell the director to fix this".
Harper arrived at the director's office but he simply laughed at what she said "Mrs Carson discovered your true ability and decided to give you the job. Shouldn't you be happy about it?" "Well,sir can't you just not give me the job?" "Sorry kid,orders from above. I most certainly don't want to get fired"
Harper left the office dejectedly. She was very sure that Catherine had done it on purpose. Today was actually meant to be for promotion but instead of Lauren,she got promoted instead!
Lauren had been the deputy team leader for several years so she had naturally gained some followers, she was suddenly pulled down from her position so it was inevitable that she was going to suffer at the hands of Lauren and her followers.
A few days later...
"Thank you so much Harper" "It's fine, I'm just doing what I'm supposed to". Harper had been working very hard for the past few days and it finally payed off. Everyone had changed their opinion of her and started liking her,all except for Lauren of course. She still bullied Harper once in a while and kept spreading several malicious rumors about her in the company.
"Miss Spencer, here's your coffee"Lauren was working on the computer;with all her attention focused on it. She stretched out a hand while using the other to type "Bring it over".
Harper walked over and she was just about to place the cup into Lauren's hand. Unfortunately, her hand missed and the coffee spilled all over Harper's hand. She let out a shrill scream and Lauren stood up looking concerned "Oh Harper, you need to be more careful. Look at your hand, it's all red! Are you okay?" "I'm fine" "In that case,do you mind getting me another cup of coffee?" "No problem" Harper managed to endure the pain in her hand and ordered another cup of coffee for Lauren, paying for it herself.
As soon as Lauren left,Lily who was Harper's friend she had made a few days ago came over with an icepack and gently put it on Harper's hand. It stung quite a lot but it helped alleviate the pain. "Are you okay Harper?" "I'm fine" "That Lauren is such a bad person! I saw her flinch as soon as you handed the coffee to her! I'll go report her to the director" "No need, it's fine" "But she-" "I said it's okay Lily" "Fine"
Harper stretched her tired body and took some time to rub her eyes and neck before getting back to work. A few hours ago, Lauren had put all the documents she'd been working on all day into the shredder, claiming it was 'accidental' and that she was only trying to help the deputy leader clean her table. She'd put emphasis on the 'deputy leader' and Harper instantly knew that it was because of Lauren's jealousy that she had done that. She went to the director to apologize,but he refused her apology and told her that she must get the work done by tomorrow.
It was too much for her to finish before the time limit so she decided to stay back at the office. She saw a shadow behind her and when she turned around, she was stunned "What are you doing here?"
