Chapter 28

Harper couldn't believe her ears "Lauren's gone? Just like that?" "I know it's hard to believe but it's true. She's gone" Harper had resumed to work early the next day only to find out that Lauren was no longer working at the company "Did she resign or-" One of the members of the design team who could be described as Lauren's second-in-hand stood up in anger "That's enough Harper! Everyone here knows how much you hate Lauren. You're probably really happy that she's gone so why are you faking concern?" "Why you-" "It's okay Lily. You don't need to bother yourself with someone like her"

It was soon time for lunch but Harper still couldn't help but wonder what exactly had happened. Lauren had been working at the company for almost as long as Kaylie so how could she just leave like that all of a sudden? Then she remembered Harrison looked really angry last night after hearing about the coffee incident. She wasn't too sure but she faintly heard him saying he didn't want to see a certain someone at work tomorrow so could he have...

Harper shook her head in her mind. There's no way her husband could have done that, it's not like he's some rich CEO who could get people fired from companies that weren't even his by just a phone call; right?

Harper stood up and headed to the canteen where she heard some people gossiping "Did you hear what happened to Lauren of design team B?" "No, what happened to her?" "I heard she got fired!" "No way!" "It's true. Turns out that most of the designs she'd made were actually plagiarized from magazines ranging to as far as 8 to 10 years ago!" "There's no way that happened. You all know Harper right? The CEO'S first daughter?" "Yeah but what about her?" "She managed to get Ivy Miller to sign a contract with her. I'm pretty sure she used Miss Miller to get Lauren fired!" "Don't you know it's not good to gossip?"

The employees all turned their heads, and the lady who was talking about Harper just now began to blush "H-Harrison" "You're supposed to confirm something first before telling other people. Should I call the police to arrest you for slandering someone?" "Well I-" Harrison simply ignored the lady and left amidst a bunch of fangirls who were ogling him. "Did you see that just now?" "Harrison is soooo handsome. I wish I could date him even if it were just for 1 day" "You should give up. Didn't you hear? He's married" "Oh please. He isn't even wearing a ring. It's probably just a rumor"

Harper looked at her ring finger and couldn't help feeling a little sad. She and Harrison had been married for a while now but he hadn't even given her a ring. Did he still not acknowledge their relationship yet? Just then Harper heard a 'ding' and looked at her phone before leaving the canteen.

"I'm over here" Harper looked up and saw Harrison leaning against the wall looking at her with his beautiful grey eyes "What is it?" "Why didn't you speak up when she was slandering you?" Harper simply shrugged in response "Didn't feel like it. Besides even if I manage to stop her now, what gives me the assurance that she won't do so in the future?" Harrison tilted his head as he looked at his wife What was wrong with her? She seemed a bit off. "Is something bothering you?" "I'm-"

Harper was about to reply when she was suddenly cut off by a loud noise. She turned her head to see what was causing the commotion and she was stunned
