Chapter 36

Harrison rushed back home but was met with an unexpected scene. All of Harper's clothes were gone, she was gone as well! Where could she have gotten to? He tried calling her several times but she refused to pick any of his calls. Just as he was getting frustrated, his phone suddenly started ringing. "Hello?" "Harrison, it's me, Harper's mom" "Mother-in-law?" "Can you please come over to my place? Your wife is here" "I'm on my way"

Harrison got to Bethany's house in less than ten minutes. When Bethany had fully recovered, Harper had used the money left from the medical fees Harrison had paid to get her a small house. It wasn't that big,but it was in a very good location. The owner didn't ask for Bethany to pay rent, and that had been made possible by Harrison who had bought the house in secret.

"Mother-in-law!" "It's good you're here. Come on in" Harrison went inside and he was stunned by what he saw. Harper was sitting on the floor with her head laid on the coffee table, and she seemed drunk. "What happened to her?" "Apparently she went to the bar to 'drown her sorrows' with Tina. She wanted to stay with her at home, but there's a lot of customers at the bar and she had to stay behind to help" "Thank you" "I'll give you two some time to talk"

Bethany stepped out of the house for a bit and Harrison slowly walked towards Harper "Harper?" Harper slowly lifted her head and she frowned upon seeing Harrison "What do you want? Aren't you supposed to be with Ivy?" "I came to see you" "I don't need your sympathy. Get out!" "Harper I-" Harper slowly stood up and wobbingly walked towards Harrison "I told you that I don't want to see you again. We'll get a divorce in a few days. What else do you want from me?!" Harper suddenly burst into tears "Harper what's wrong?"

"You- do you have any idea how much it hurt me to see you with Ivy in that hotel room today? When my dad told me to marry you,I did it because I had no other choice,I had no plans of falling in love with you but I couldn't stop myself. You showed me the kindness I hadn't felt in years. I- I started falling for you and thought that maybe we could have a chance but you-" "Harper" "You could have told me that you didn't like me,I would have stepped back but you didn't tell me anything. Why?!" Harper kept hitting Harrison's chest while crying until he stopped her by pulling her close to his chest and patting her back "I'm sorry Harper, I'm really sorry"

A few minutes later, Harrison carried a sleeping Harper in his arms and gently laid her on a bed in the room. He took off her shoes and adjusted her sleeping position so she could sleep properly. He brushed away a few strands of hair from her forehead and stared at her sleeping face for a few moments before leaning in and kissing her on the forehead "Sleep well dear"

"Is she asleep" "Yes mother-in-law" "Listen Harrison, do you remember what I told you a few months ago?" "Yes ma'am" "Are you willing to take care of my daughter? If you aren't I won't hold anything against you" "What happened today was all just a misunderstanding. I've tried explaining to her,but she just doesn't want to listen" "I understand. Harper can be stubborn sometimes and she's been hurt before so.." "It's okay. I'm willing to help her heal. She's my wife now and I'll take full responsibility for her"
